I suppose that could be true Jibba. Hell could very well be of our own making and this is just the testing ground to find out what our achilles heel is.

Purgatory is believed by Roman Catholics, and very few other Christians, to be a location or state where the souls of most individuals go at the time of death. It has traditionally been viewed as a place of torment, where "nearly all of us shall...have to pass a period more or less long in the excruciating fires of Purgatory after death." 2 Gregory the Great wrote "that the pain be more intolerable than any one can suffer in this life" Augustine 3 and St. Bonaventure 4 agree. The purpose of this pain is to cleanse the individual from the temporal consequences of her or his sins while on earth. Eventually, the person will be eligible to be transferred to Heaven.

Please tell me where you got the idea that earth is already purgatory. Can you prove to me your hypothesis?

Purgatory is a place where the soul of a dead wo/man is placed for judgement. The only place we have judgement is in Court. Roman-Catholic's believe that purgatory is where anyone can stay for up to hundreds and hundreds of years. When not careful for their action, they are immediately sent to "Eternal Damnation" or the palace of Satan (Hell).

God is the judge and there is no jury. He is all and we are just a piece of his world. Don't wait for Heaven, Just do what you can in life and no one has to worry about Purgatory. Here's a tip: DON'T COMMIT CRIMES and start doing something worthy of your life spent here. I'm pretty sure you'll have a better life up there that DOWN there.

i had an answer about life and reality, but i got a little creeped out by some of the answers. plan? life is a drudgery? veiled threats of hell? living for SATAN? i actually kinda liked nise's answer. tried to use logic and didn't give a lecture. sorry, this is not a running commentary.

spose it could be called purgatory. i'd rather it wasn't, though. no doomsday hanging over my head so that i have to live my life hovering in its shadow. i try to live well, i'm good to people, i intend to continue to thoroughly enjoy my time on earth.

It's not actually purgatory, but you make an interesting point in that it's not heaven or hell and there is much suffering just as Jesus said there would be. I guess we just do the best we can according to Scripture here until the day we're separated - the goats on the left and the sheep on the right... God bless you. ~Nise~

I do not think we are in purgatory, but sometimes life surely feels like it when people are mean or they don't understand you.

I think life is beautifully enhanced by the arts--dance, painting, music... Human achievements and passions in the arts are so amazing!! That's heaven to me.

So there you have it as I see it, it's a mixture of heaven and hell on earth--it depends on what you do with you time. More time spent with crappy people and events make life a purgatory.

The earth kind of is like the the Catholic notion of purgatory! You have a choice while youre here to follow God or deny him and that determines where you go!

You create you own prison within your soul. For Kim C, the Catholic Church has abandoned the doctrine of purgatory. Keep current.

If you are living under Satan's rules and law then I am sure it may feel to you like hell, but if you ever really get to hell, this will be nothing. Try Gods plan for your life. He has great things in store for you. Life does not have to be such drudgery. Life is what you make of it. You can live for God or for Satan. Your choice. You reap what you sow. Choose wisely!
