I have two dogs and a two cats and have never had a problem with fleas. However recently my cat has been getting outside and she brought them in the house. My large dog literally has soars and scabs on him from biting so hard and my small cat has the same. I have bathed all of them repeatedly in flea shampoo. What do you think would be the best remody?

NEVER use flea collars - they have actually killed some pets...

flea medication like Advantage or Revolution seems to be a good choice

myself I also suggest you get a flea comb and comb the pet thoroughly - have sticky tape near by and stick any fleas to it for disposal. Do this as much as you can -

vacuum the home daily and wash all pet bedding

I have a schnauzer that stays inside with me I apply front line plus once a month and he has no fleas or vermin if you decide to go this route order off line it is very much cheaper than the vet you can get a 6 month supply about what it cost for couple a months from a vet.. If you have carpet be sure and vacuum it daily for a while that is the best way to control quite a few fleas remember you have to get rid of the eggs or you are not rid of the fleas a lot of shampoo says it does this but I have never found one that does www.entirelypets.com may give u some info

After bathing them (ask your vet for a flea shampoo) get either Advantage or Frontline (the tubes of stuff you squeeze on the back of their necks). Use that then you will have to spray your house all the carpets and furniture. Or get a flea bomb, ask your vet they usually sell all that stuff and it is stronger than the stuff you can buy at the store. Run the sweeper all over everything. You may need to repeat this. Once the fleas are gone your animals will heal up just fine. One other thing is tapeworm which can be caused from your dog or cat eating fleas. You will see them in your animals stool or hanging from their but, and if you do get medication from vet.

First, you should take your large dog and small cat to the vet so that the vet can see the sores and prescribe medication so they will clear up. Then ask him what he suggests for fleas. Since dogs and cats are different, he may well suggest different products for your dog and your cat or he may suggest the same product but remember that flea products have a version for cats and a version for dogs and you should always use the correct one. Purchase the product from your vet if possible. I know that the product may be more expensive here, but you will have the advantage of the vet's knowledge and experience and also you will know that you have the right product for your pets. Good luck!

There is a product you can buy from Shaklees called Basic H2 and Basic G This is how you use.
shampoo with Basic H2-1/2 tsp and 2-3 drops Basic G to a gallon of water Put solution in squeeze bottle. Go around neck first, soak area so fleas will not run to ears, nose, and eyes.Soak down the back then rest of body. Use in shower area or with a hand shower. Rinse well. BasicH2 takes shield off fleas so they drown. Basic G gets rid of germs and fungus A supplement you should also give your animals is Vita-Lea.If your pets have wounds get a product called Vit-E 400 plus prick the capsule and rub E on until healed. If you decide to go this route let me know how you made out. My e-mail address is brucecosmobarb@yahoo.ca

I personally thing you would be better going to the vets and getting some Advantage there is another one but can't remember it name. Advantage you put the little bit of stuff behind there neck 2 days or more after you bath them. This stuff is also waterprofit and it last for about 3 to 4 weeks. Then spray the animals bedding for fleas.

frontline flea treatment usually works a word of caution though if your buying any flea treatments over the counter be sure to read the instructions carefully some dog treatments are not suitable for cats and can kill them best get advice from vets surgery on best products and how to use them there is also a jag the vet can give that works very quickly

well the remedies bought from pet shops seldom work as the flea become inmune to the formulas. its best to get a treatment from your vet either a spray or drops which go onto the back of the animals neck. your pets will scratch much more, the more often you bath them, as you are removing natural protective oils from their coats.when you buy the treatment from your vet also buy a houshold spray and treat your carpets and soft furnishings at the same time, taking particular care around edges as the fleas drop eggs that hatch into larve in your home.the pets then become reinfested ( they can bite you as well)the sprays or drops will protect your pets fo a numbers of weeks against fleas and ticks. a point worth remembering is that fleas carry tape worm eggs, which can grow into adult tape worms in your pets intestines. so ask your vet for a worm treatment as well.

Go to a vet and get enough ADVANTAGE to do all the pets, then go to the store and look for RAID in a purple can (flea bombs). Go home ,treat the pets with advantage, put the pets somewhere safe ( not in the house ) then bomb the house with the raid. In a week or so you should see results. If you still have fleas do it again. it will work eventually.

You should get Frontline from the vet, treat your animals and vacuum under all your radiators, all your carpets, ANYWHERE your pets like to lie, and machine wash their bedding. The vaccumming is the best way to get rid of the fleas and their eggs from your home. Also if you allow your dogs on your bed, I would recommend machine washing your bedding aswell.

As for the sores, they should be treated by the vet.
