Because, generally, female drivers are more cautious and timid behind the wheel. They can be nervous about making motorway trips, and not too great with navigation.
They typically don't take risks, but can be somewhat hesitant, to sum up. Still, who said there weren't any exceptions from this rule?
To an extent, it is stereotyping, nothing wrong with having a bit of a laugh, but I have noticed some of this myself when on the roads myself, or being driven by females, or indeed, listneing to females talking about driving/cars.

The Insurance Institute statistics say that men have many more accidents than women BUT we have many more accidents per mile driven.
So the bottom line is that we really do suck at driving when comparing the number of accidents per mile driven!
In total dollar damage women outpace men by millions of dollars but men are more likely to be in fatal accidents!

It depends who it talking about women - women have much better reputations with insurance firms which is why the insurance premium is lower for us.
Now who do you think is right in FACT? The firms in control of insurance monies or the wise-cracking blokes...? Statistics wise the majority of deaths on the roads are caused by men.
Did you know that in the UK the safest drivers are called 'Ian'? Apparently the most dangerous drivers are called 'Dan'!
Sorry for that one fact fans!

yes it is a stereotype, however fireman sam says, theres no smoke without combustible materials...
women dont have spatial awareness, they have eyes in the back of hteir head, but sadly not at the side... they drive perfectly, they are aware and know whats in front, and behind, but they sort of ignore whats 10 inches either side of them...they cant see it, so its not there.
and they have no idea about actual realtime braking distances, especially in the wet. at 30mph you cover 44 feet per second, 60 ist 88feet. 90mph 132 feet per second...
so at 60 its around 264 feet..or 17 car lengths..driving 25 feet behind the guy in front isnt enough space to stop... something which they are unaware of..apparently

Possibly because only a very women have ever been any good at motor-sport, and less than half-a-dozen have been able to come close to the best male drivers.
You could argue the same for women footballers and rugby players.....they're just not made for it.

thats like asking how come men are better with a gun, cause its something that we enjoy doing more than women so we take pride in our cars, there not just a way to get to point a to point b to us, and men tend to speed more and go out and race, thats why the insurance is more for men, dumb *** kids that go out and buy a camaro z28 when they are 16 and wreck it cause they have no experience driving but want others to know they have a fast car. and im 27, my girlfriend is 31, both no accidents or tickets, and im cheaper to insure my bmw than she is.

Because the majority of women ARE cr@p drivers, giving this bad image for all, including us females that ARE GOOD drivers.
AND IT SOOOOOO ANNOYS ME THAT THE LIMITED CRAP FEW, GIVE A BAD NAME TO THE REST OF US WHO ARE GREAT !!!
And what makes it worse........... they allow these Crap driving females to drive the big 4x4's / space waggons and people carriers making it more WORSE !!!!!!! Aahhrrrrrrr.
if you can't drive a small car like a Rover Metro, what makes you think that a huge 7 seater or 4x4's gonna be any different !!!!

Don't know - and the insurance companies don't seem to agree seeing that premiums for women are generally cheaper than for men.
Also most of the @rseholes I see on the roads are men...

"Although men are three times more likely than women to be killed in car crashes, researchers at the Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine and Public Health have found that, when the total numbers of crashes are considered, female drivers are involved in slightly more crashes than men. Overall, men were involved in 5.1 crashes per million miles driven compared to 5.7 crashes for women, despite the fact that on average they drove 74 percent more miles per year than did women."

Bottom line is that research suggests men speed, don't wear safety bealts and are more likely to die in a wreck. But women are in more wrecks than men per miles driven. As for who causes more wrecks, I've been unable to find numbers on that anywhere.
In my personal anectodal experience, us men drive more egotistically. But women on the whole have worse reaction time and tend to not be paying attention. I've been in 3 accidents in my life, 2 of them were with women and 1 with a young man who was speeding through a red light and clipped the back of my car. The young man admitted his fault, but interestingly the women got out of their car and were immediately confrontational about the wreck. In both of those situations, law enforcement determined it to be their fault (one was pulling out when they didn't have the right-of-way and the second wasn't paying attention and rear-ended me at a red light)
