I am contemplating a breeding that will involve a dog out of the US. What type of cost can I expect to encounter as far as having the AI done? Not including the stud fee and materials fee.

Ouch!

Now it has been a few years, but expect $500 -1000 because of the surgical proceedure to place the frozen semen

If it is fresh/shipped, it is a lot less - $75 -150 depending upon the area where you live.

If you are doing AI, you need to find a canine reporductive specialist. SHe has too be carefully checked for any uterine or vaginal infections (some so low grade you won't notice anything.) Also she has to monitored for ovulation.

Call the nearest vet school at a university and ask them for refferals for your area. You many end up having to leave her at the clinic for several days to time the cycles.

Not cheap to do AI - and frozen is a very pricey proceedure that because of its cost is only reserved for the very very top dogs in the breed.

Pammie above doesn't have a clue. The stud fee pays for the semen. Getting it in to her is the your cost.

An AI with frozen semen will run about $1000 with shipping, handling, and 2 inseminations. At least, that is about what it is here, it may be different where you are. Call a local clinic that specializes in reproduction, they can give you more information.

And NO, this will not be covered by a stud fee as someone suggested.

I assume you are talking about "frozen". You do know that a frozen AI does involve a surgical procedure?? To begin with not every vet around is even certified to do it, so your first step is to find out who in your aria can do it, and then you will find that the price is driven by the market. For instence there is only one vet in Utah that does them, so it's a bit pricey.
Remember that "frozen" is a different deal than fresh or chilled.

You will have to check with Airport for oversea charges.
What ever the stud fee will be, that should be covered in stud fee.
