My mother is 70+ and just broke her hip while visiting Ireland (Dublin). She is from American, is a senior citizen, and has Medicare. Is she covered in Ireland? If so, how much paperwork are we going to have to do?

thanks

Unfortunately, no. **Pray she has Travel Insurance**, in which case she will be covered under that policy. If this was through a Tour and she paid with a credit card she should have some coverage under the terms of use with her credit card company.

Contact the U.S. Embassy in Ireland to inquire about assistance and get your questions answered. Also contact her U.S. doctor to alert him/her to the situation... she will need medical attention when she arrives back in the U.S.

My 72 y/o mother broke her hip on a cruise ship while out on the high seas. The Travel Insurance took care of her bills, but it took a lot of arguing to achive. She spent 6-weeks in the hospital, mostly because she didn't have a home to go to and the hosp wouldn't release her to the hotel my dad stayed at.

Did she have travel insurance? If she did, they have some instructions on how to proceed. Otherwise, you don't have a lot of paperwork to fill out - just bills to pay!

Regerttably, she is not covered. There is no reciprocal agreement in place between Ireland and the US. Sorry...

Only covered if she took out travel insurance.
