Thanks feenix_... Is Yahoo Local on the spot with recommendations ?
Not knowing the source, one can only assume they are like profit motivated for the internet crowd. Would appreciate local information over commercial publicity.

ABRIDGED
feenix_rysing’s Uno's deep dish pizza, Gene & Georgetti's Italian cuisine and Bogart's elephant steaks.

jessified’s enthused advocacy for Giordanos and Portillos Italian beef and hot dog.

Nevermind Giordanos! shelagh m’s all ‘cowabunga’ over Pizza at Uno's or Due's. Southside’s Harold's Chicken quintessential charm lies behind a bullet proof glass; Al's definitive Italian beef, as well as jessified’s Portillos; Good and cheap Polish food along Maxwell street; Marios Italian Ice in summer.

Pizza is definitely Uno's or Due's they're the same thing. I had to mention this again because Giordanos is not as good. Harold's Chicken is known to all Chicago southsiders and has the wonderful charm of being served to you from behind bullet proof glass. Marios Italian Ice is closed for the season but is very popular in the summer. Portillos is very good but I would also recommend Al's for Italian beef. It is called "Al's number one italian beef". You can't really get good italian beef outside of Chicago. If you want a good polish for dirt cheap then Maxwell street is the place to go. I actually prefer the one on 31st to the one on Maxwell street. The only thing Chicago doesn't have a lot of is health food places. We're not really into that.

Let's see...Uno's deep dish pizza, Gene & Georgetti's for Italian food or steaks, Bogart's in Tinley Park for HUGE steaks and great martinis. In Chicago proper, there are a bunch of ethnic areas for authentic dishes. There are also a ton of ethnic restaurants in the suburbs that are fantastic. Check Yahoo Local for recommendations and ratings.

Giordanos..for pizza...definately...I prefer the spinach and garlic but it is all great.

Portillos..for Italian beef and a chicago style hot dog!! You can beat it anywhere!!

Chicago has a great variety of ALL ethnic foods....the diversity here is wonderful and the food is a very important part of it!
