I took Chantix to quit. It worked. I couldn't take it for very long because it made me feel so ill, but it worked. I had smoked for ten years, and I quit this past November. I did get very depressed afterwards, which I have heard is common. I also felt terrible...my allergies started bothering me, and I seemed to be getting a cold every other week, and had no energy. It doesn't seem fair that quitting is supposed to be so good for us and yet it made me feel so bad. I've also gained a lot of weight, without an increase in what I eat. Now, almost 7 months after I quit, I am starting to feel better. One thing I did which made me feel a bit better about quitting was to put $4 in a jar every day (the amount I saved by not smoking). Just seeing the money piling up instead of the cigarette butts piling up in the ashtray was a positive reinforcement for me. I used the money to buy some things I had been wanting for a long time but didn't feel like I could afford.

There is a big difference between stoping smoking, and stopping the desire to smoke. Until you stop the desire, you don't have a chance and can go for a month without a cig and still want one.
There is an ancient chant . . . do this and you will quit smoking.
It goes: May Kamen Tut. . . .May Kamen Tut . . . May Kamen Tut.
continue to repeat for about 10 times.
When I did the chant, I reallly did not believe it would work, but I got a big suprise. I stopped smoking.
Have no idea what the words mean, but it worked for me.
I haven't had or wanted a cigarette for the past 10 years. Feel great.

There is no successfully fool-proof way to quit smoking. It all depends on the addicted party. Some people can stop cold-turkey with little side effects and cravings. Some don't have it that easy and some have more severe side effects. I was told by some of my ex-smoking friends, that the best way to quit to decide when to quit and stick to it. Working out seems to ward off or distract you from the side effects, but you'll never be completely rid of the actual addiction. It all depends on how badly you want to quit and what exactly works for you.

I think it depends on the person. My old neighbor smoked 3 packs a day, and quit cold turkey. That didn't work for me. I've tried the patch...which actually cut me back from a pack a day to 4 a day at the most. It helped the cravings....but I was not succesful. I think you REALLY have to have a strong urge to want to quit...which I didn't. I was trying to do it for someone. There are a lot of helpful hints at www.quitnet.com. There are real people with suggestions and what worked for them. You can join for free and get tips everyday. I hope you have more willpower than me! Good luck to you!

Just quit. If you have the discipline to stop you don't need a 'method'. If you haven't, no method will work anyway.
