My dog is a Lahsapoo,(Lahsa Apso mixed with a Poodle), and she gets terrified when I give her a bath. Is there a certain method for calming her down, and making it easier for BOTH of us?

Dog groomer to the rescue! Some of the dogs are quite nervy when it comes to bath time. If you are filling the bath and putting her in STOP she probably thinks you are trying to drown her. If you shower her, perhaps you could try it on a gentler setting so the water doesn't jet as much, so it almost just pours out. Also if she is afraid of the shower, you could try filling a jug with warm (not hot) water, and start from the tail end, working your way gradually towards her withers and finally her neck. Do as you would with a baby, tilt her head back and make sure you put a thumb over her earholes so you don't get water in her little ears. Wet the sides of her muzzle aswell but try not to get water in her nose (again, she will fear being drowned) All the time keep talking to her telling her shes a good girl etc. It might help if you had a little leash on her so you can keep hold of her. Maybe also have a helper on hand to calm her as you wash her.

REMEMBER always start from the back and work towards the front, you wouldn't like someone shoving a shower in your face, that is the way you have to look at it. We need to have a little patience with her. Just persevere with her and make sure you praise her like mad when she behaves. Good luck!

PS: Forgot to mention - some owners take their dogs to the hydropool, why not do some research on the net for one near you?

Just keep talking to her in a soft voice and keep praising her. You can try giving her some treats. Make sure water is warm, not too hot. Afterwards towel her dry and keep praising her. Give a few more treats. If she is ok with a hair dryer try that, if not don't. Most dogs liked being brushed, so do that, too. You can ask you vet if there is anything you can give her, but be cautious when doing that. She might be too relaxed in the water. Good luck.

Try running the lukewarm water into the tub before you take her into the bathroom. Some dogs are afraid of the shower head being put on them, so instead use a pitcher to pour water over her. Leave her head for last. Shampoo and rinse the rest of the dog, then tilt her head back a bit so you don't get water in her eyes and pour a bit of water on her head, then shampoo and rinse. If you stay calm and talk to her quietly, she should learn to accept her bath.

I have a friend who had the same problem and what she did worked maybe it will help you. Instead of bringing out the pan of water or taking the dog to the tub she bought a couple of sponges and got them wet laid them out on a table and sponged of her dog. The first couple of days she used just a little water and slowly she increased the amount. After a couple of weeks of doing it you know every other day or so the dog started to like the treatment and eventually she was able to add a bucket of water and wash the dog completely. Might be worth a try.
