I think the more important thing is finding out you are pregnant as soon as possible.

We don't live our lives as nicely when it is only ourselves we are concerned about...

Depending on how long you (or the person in question) don't know, the smoking can cause low birth weight, miscarriage, minor learning disabilities, and the babies come out addicted (if the mom smokes the whole time). I worked in a nursery for a long time, and felt sorry for the babies whose mothers smoked. They need a lot of consoling and tend to want to suck on anything (their hands, pacifiers, bottle nipples) more than the average baby.

There is always a small risk, but if the person didn't know and quit when she found out then there is no reason to worry at all. I know 9 kids including my own that are perfectly healthy (no premature births, great birth weights, very intelligent) and we all smoked while pregnant with them.

It can effect some babies and some it won't . Years ago women didn't know better and smoked not every baby came out defected. Now a days we know better and don't take chances that's all. If some one didn't know they were pregnant and smoked she will just have to wait and see.

Depending on how much a woman smokes, yes. Even second-hand smoke can affect the baby, so it's best to stay away from it completely.

It is best to avoid cigarrettes while you are pregnant. While there are some risk, at that point and if the mother quit when she found out the risk is small. Still better not to smoke though.

If by the time you find out your pregnant, it will be in the first trimester and thats ample enough time to quit smoking and not harm the fetus.

Yes it will. I did and my son now has asthma. If I could go back I would definetly quit the second I found out I was pregnant.

Yes. Not knowing is no excuse. If you are having unprotected sex, that means you are trying to get pregnant, and should treat your body as if you already are.
