I want to buy a painting or print for my sister. She likes abstract art that has interesting messages, paintings or photographs. She likes the darker meanings underneath but not too expensive for my benefit! Any ideas?

Go to Art.com. On the left, click on abstract. I like The Kiss by Rabi Khan. But there are others. If you cannot mail order it, call a local art print/framing place. They may have what you are looking for. A Francis Bacon print would be really contemporary and dark, if you can find one. Or a great art book might be nice too.

A good framed print of nearly anything by Salvador Dali or Rene Magritte should work very well and not be too expensive.

Go to art colleges and look at what students are doing, and then when you see something you like, make the student an offer.

Salvador Dali is the best, especially his most famous works.
That or someone like Kandinsky is pretty cool. Good Luck.

I don't know what your budget is, but a nicely framed print of "Starry Night" by van Gogh would be nice, in my opinion.
