I suspect that your dog is trying to tell you something. You don't say how long you have had your dog. Has she just stopped eating "dog food", or is she new to you? If she is new, you should, if possible find out what she was fed before you got her and continue with that diet. If she has just stopped eating what you give her, you need to get her to a vet for a checkup.
However my point is that if you knew what went into processed "pet food" (which is what I assume you are refering to (either dried, moist or canned)) , and understood just how it was manufactured, I don't think you would want to feed it to what should be your best friend. I suspect it is this that she is trying to tell you!
For your dogs sake, do some research on canine raw feeding, sometimes called the BARF diet. This is how I feed my German Shepherd, and not only is it better/healthier for the dog, it's cheaper than commercial pet food.

I'm seeing lots of folks saying to wait and the dog will eventually eat. I'm sure this is true, but you don't know why your dog isn't eating. Maybe the current food makes the dog feel ill. Maybe she's not used to traditional dog food and needs to be gradually worked into it.
I would not suggest starving your dog. Start out with canned as the soft stuff might go over a bit better and seem less like "dog food". Then I agree with the stated above about gradually mixing them, the same way introduce a new food, until your dog if more adjusted to the hard food.
Good Luck.

What an excellent dog you have. Obviously you care for her to consider asking the question. Probably you are giving her too much fuss and love as we all do with our pets!
My Staffie used to be a very fussy eater, sometimes go days without food, just drinking water!
We then got him a companion, a female Jack, and guess what....
The dog eat dog / look after no.1 scenario kick in!
He wolfs his food down now otherwise she (the Jack) will eat the lot!
I did find the Staffie was less likely to eat canned food when younger, so its only dried complete since, and for both dogs.
Good luck, but check for mouth problems too.
Staffs rarely show pain or suffering (as they are so tuff!)and she may have a dodgy tooth or mouth ulcer?

When i fist got my 2 little yorkies they were just fed on table tit bits and they'ed eat anything as long as it had gravy on it (gravy is high in salt and very bad for dogs).
i used to sit with my dogs and pretend to eat the food that they were having and then hand feed them getting my hand closer and closer to the dish unitl they began to eat out of the dish. i then moved further away from the dish, until i didnt need to be in the same room. It took about 1 week for them both to eat out of the dish and 1 more week where i didnt need to be in the room.
i also completely cut off anything that wasnt dog food, eg tit bits, gravy and treats.
give it a try. Hope it was helpful...

I have done this with many dogs of all different breeds, you are saying to the dog that the food is good and there is nothing in it that will hurt the dog.
The idea is to get the dog to begin to eat the food u want them to eat in small portions. If you let her get too hungry and she gulps the food down she will then be sick as her stomach will force the food back out because she isnt eating properly. She will the become a greedy dog or may not eat for longer and longer periods of time.

Don't feed her anything else, because her survival mode will kick in and she will eat. Dogs are smart...if she knows that if she waits long enough, you will toss her people food...she will wait.
If you don't feel strong enough to do that, consider making her a bowl of half food half dog food, or whatever you feed her now. Then slowly put in less other food and more dog food each day.
Make sure her health is okay. Feeding people food can make a dog sick, cause cancer, weight gain, all kinds of problems.

Don't pander to her. Select the type of food you intend to feed and put it in front of her. If she doesn't eat within a couple of minutes throw it out and don't feed again until the next day. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BEGIN TO HAND FEED HER!!! She will take this as the norm and may become even more fussy.
Be firm and don't let anyone else feed her treats or scraps during the training process.

Hi,
I have never read so much rubbish that some of the others have wrote.
Make sure there isn't an underlying medical cause, such as a broken tooth or infection.
If she is fine then feed her her meal morning and at tea-time,if she refuses it,leave it down for 20 mins and pick it up,do not feed anything, including treats until next meal time.Again if it is refused, repeat. She will eat eventually and dogs tend not to starve themselves.Make sure you are feeding a good quality food also,i give my staffords Burns.

of course she will eat dog food. If that's all you offer her she will have no choice BUT to eat it. She isn't going to starve herself to death with a bowl full of dog food in front of her is she. Don't be silly, stop mucking about feeding her other stuff. Offer her dog food and nothing else and of course she will eat it.

dogs are optimists and if you give them something off your plate and they think it is scrummy they will hold out for that until they are hungry enough to eat the boring dry food. my cats are the same, takes abiut four days of them picking at their dry food before they give up thinking about junk food

That's easy. Just starve the brute for a couple of days and then it will eat anything.
Just who's the boss in your household?
I like dogs but come on- get real!!!
