Your first stop would be The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and you can fill out a complaints form on the website below. Some information to see if you have a valid reason for complaint:

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) accepts complaints from people who have been a victim of misconduct by a person serving with the police, or who have witnessed the alleged misconduct, or who were present when the alleged misconduct took place - or close enough to see or hear the misconduct - and as a result suffered loss, damage, distress or inconvenience, or was put in danger or at risk. Friends or relatives of the victim of the alleged misconduct, distressed by the effects of the incident on the victim, can also complain.

Misconduct could include a police officer or member of police staff being rude to you or using excessive force. It could also include unlawful arrest or an abuse of your rights

Hope this helps!

This question gets asks all the time! Says a lot about the Police in UK!

I've made complaints to the police many times,(personally and through work) I'm soooo popular with them now!
Best way I've found is to write to 'The officer in Charge' of whatever police station it is you are complaining to.

I've found you get a better result if you compliment the police on what they did well in the situation, and then point out what they did wrong and how you feel it should be rectified.

Keep all copies of the letter that you write. The CAB will be able to give you more advice.

I've never had any problems following making complaints to the Police. The way I see it is that they are providing a service and how can they improve the service unless they know where they are going wrong.

Just be nice, polite and remember they dont take well to being called a) the Filth or b) Pigs!

If this is a genuine complaint, contact the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

You can find them on the internet.

Before you go anywhere outside the Police force you have to make a complaint directly to the police which is looked at by ex Coppers. No chance there. Next step is the Independent Police Complaints Commision which are again mainly made up of ex Coppers so you may as well save yourself the bother as nothing will happen to them. Tried it myself with what I thought was a cast iron case against them till they altered paperwork internally and I couldn't prove it had been.

A letter to the Inspector at the station concerned is probably your first step. It depends what the complaint is and against whom.

If its about an officer in particular, then try contacting the officer in charge or his/her sergeant. If its the entire police force then try Tony Blair!

Wait a minute. I thought the British police are not allowed to carry weapons, wear little funny hats, and call themselves bobbies. What's there to complain about other than them being dorks?

well, evidence is a good start..real evidence, proof, witnesses statements and photographs of your injuries.. or written statements to suport your claim from independent witnesses.

if you havent got all of that..forget it. your word isnt worth anything without it. its a lesson in futility
