There are a lot of websites featuring guitar chords (one is www.chordfind.com). You just need to print them out & then practice. I started playing a few years ago. I began with the easiest chords (G, D, A & E major) then with C & F (I still have problems with the F chord!) I got frustrated when I couldn't play other people's songs & started writing songs of my own. I thought they were cheesy but people really seemed to like them & I've been playing & writing ever since. Some of the most famous songs in history have had simple 3-chord progressions.

Good luck! It's a great hobby! Just keep practicing, keep playing & it gets easier. You get better. Be prepared for your fingers to hurt. You'll build up callouses eventually & it stops hurting to press down on the strings. I have a blue acoustic/electric Takamine cutaway. One of the best purchases I ever made. In a way, it's changed my life!

Have fun!

Start out with the chords G, D, Em, C, and Am. Those are the ones I started with and they're pretty easy. I didn't use a book, though. If you've got good timing you can easily teach yourself (but get a teacher for more-than-amature playing). Happy strumming! ;)
