Is that a lot for an engagement ring?
Also.. this does not come with any certificate of authenticity.. basically what the jewlery store told me is, for a ring this cheap, they don't come with a certificate. Does that sound right? And even if I did get a certificate.. what exactly proves that its even real?

As a certified diamondtologist, I can tell you that this is an appropiate price, most quarter cts range from 500-750. Most likely the clarity of the ring is around an s2-s3-which is a pretty good clarity. If it is in the I range (I1, I2, I3) then you are getting ripped off. You can get an I clarity ring for 500-650; however sometimes this clairty makes inclusions very visible in the ring. Personally, I would not go lower than $750 for a 1/4 ct because most likely this is in the S clarity range, and there are no visible inclusions to the naked eye. (little black marks). Ask about the clairty of the ring. If the jeweler can't answer these questions for you ask to see if there is a diamondtologist on the premises to help you.

As for the certificate of authenticity..this just means that the ring was looked at by diamondtologists (like myself) and assessed the clarity, cut, color of the stone and appraised it for a certain amount. This comes in handy if you were to upgrade the ring, you would have the authencity of the ring handy so nonone could try to jip you into giving you less for your ring than you deserve. Also, you can insure the ring if you have the authenicity and if you were to lose it, it would be replaced. (this varies through according to jewerly shops). I would ask about this.
So anyway, I believe it is not neccessary to get a ring that has a certificate of autenctity, however if you want to upgrade in the future I would suggest it.
Good luck!

The quality of the diamond determines the cost of the ring. A white gold setting is not very expensive, like platinum would be, so the bulk of your cost is going to the diamond itself. In general, $750 is a small price if you compare it to some others that can cost upwards of 3-4k, for a diamond that is under a carat. Take a look at Blue Nile (an online jewelry store)...they specialize in diamonds. Good luck!

Never buy anything that doens't come with at least a few days full money back waranty. Then you can take the ring to another well known jewlery store and get it appraised. Then if you don't like the amount take it back.

Do a search for "White gold yellow diamond engagement ring" on Google. They list several rings with different prices.

Sounds like they are trying to rip you off.

My ring is about .5 carat with 2 side diamonds. The center ring is colorless and flawless as well as certified. It cost $850.00. It is white gold.

If you have one by your house, go to Helzberg Diamonds. That's where we got mine. The people there are very nice and helpful.

it sounds a little bit too much. my fiance got me my ring and it is 3 prong diamond -1/2 carat- for around 600 dollars with a warrantee..
we didnt get a certificate of authenticity but if you have your receipt, then they should be able to prove that it is real.

That sounds kinda expensive for such a small carat. I bought my wife's 1 carat for about $900.
