what does this say about the versatility of evolution? I think they did go back to the ancient ocean, once they were equiped for that. The nose is just moved back to the top of the skull.

there was a program on this very subject on PBS.

The blow hole of a whale is a nostril. Ask any
archeologist, or scientist.

I guess I'm just talking to the 70% of nth america, who think the earth is flat!

dear fland dargo, dago, whatever your your name is.
Your arguments are lame. Creationists always rely on perverted science to substantiate their claims.
So what is this grasshopper rubbish? Get ****** real will u? get some real science, for chriss sake!

You are talking, I assume about the Fayum formations in Egypt? Around 35 million years ago, this was a marine / mangrove envirnment on what was the southern shore of the Tethys Sea. Africa was moving north at the time (and still is), which is why the area is now dry land.

There is no arguement, nor has there ever been, that whales are descended from land living mammals - the mesonchyans. There would be no need to "wait" for the nostrils to move to the top on the head before they "returned " to the sea, just look at seals. The adaptation would have come afterwards.

The raw data is correct.

It is in the interpretation of the data where the problem lies.

For example: I get hold of a grass-hopper, released it on a table, and at the time of release I said "jump" . It jumped. I did that with 876 different grass-hoppers, and in 78 % , they jumped. I then repeated the experiment but broke of one leg. In only 2 % was there an feeble attempt to jump. My conclusion? They could not hear the command to jump!! You agree?

Or how about this one: a teacher puts an earthworm in a beaker of 95 % pure ethanol (the alcohol found in all alcoholic beverages, eg. beer, rum, whiskey, etc). The earthworm disintegrated. When the Grade 5 class was asked what conclusion can be drawn from this experiment, one boy came up with, "Alcohol is good to drink: it will kill the worms!"

The argument is not about the data but with the interpretation of such data. At that point, we have moved from the realm of science into philosophy. Is there another interpretation of the Geologic Column than that given by evolutionists? How did that whale head get on the mountain? Did the dinosaurs really live 5 million years ago, and if so how can aDNA (ancient DNA) survive all that time after they became extinct more that 4 million years ago? Was Archeopteryx really a missing link between fish and bird or was it a species that became extinct like the dinosaurs?

And to those who think that Christians are feeble-minded and brain-washed, it might interest you you know that currently, there are many Christians (and others who believe in God) who are research scientists with advanced degrees in such areas as biochemistry, astronomy, molecular biology, nuclear physics, etc. Get off the insult bandwaggon and stick with the issues. If you cannot discuss an issue intelligently and have to resort ot personal attacks, you certainly cannot defend your position.

I am always so amazed when I watch the dinosaur shows on Discovery. The animals evolution from land mammals to sea mammals. How many thousands of years did it take for that to happen?

I wonder if the whale skull found in the desert could also mean that the desert where it was found was once under water?

here is a link to an older article, I wish you had provided a way of letting us know what article in Nature you were referring to, I can not find it and as a result I can't comment on it. This link might give you some help though. it is not very long or very new. It is easily read though.

Why is this question in the religion section?
Do you have the misbegotten belief that evolution conflicts with religion?
It really only conflicts with close minded people who prefer to ignore evidence to hang on to obsolete beliefs.
