POOR PEOPLE LIVE ON LOVE
RICH PEOPLE LIVE ON MONEY.
if you are poor and have love then you are richer than any rich person who has money and not sure if the people around them love them or their money and possessions.
you can't receive a kiss from an IPOD. you can't get a hug from a flat screen TV. i don't even know what a blue ray is but i bet it can't hold you when you have a nightmare and need comfort. and a play station three can't hold your hand while looking at the sunset and just enjoying the beauty of nature. so don't despair on material things. and look around you and see the beautiful things life has already given you for free!!! good luck sweety.

Don't be down. Being envious is part of human nature, so it's understandable how you could want all of this stuff that you don't need. <-- see that's the key word there "need". No one needs any of the stuff that you mentioned. I don't know, I guess I feel that, when people have all of these material possessions it takes away from noticing the little things in life and also, just what actually is important. They're just wasting their money, so you shouldn't be jealous at all.
Money doesn't buy happiness and not to sound like I'm 80 or something, but those people obviously don't know the value of a dollar, but when you do, it makes the things that you buy more worthwhile and meaningful. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't be sad about not being able to buy pointless things. Most of them are fads anyway and money doesn't buy happiness.
Hmm, well I probably didn't make much sense, but I tried. Hope it helped a little. Don't be down ^_^ You should feel almost like a better person knowing that you have good will power and control over your money, as not to spend it all on pointless things. (because I mean you could still spend it, because obviously you want it, but you make the choice to not, so...good work. lol)
cheer up. monetary items aren't all of what is important in life.

I am actually sad for materialistic people cause if heaven forbid they lose their stuff, there's not a whole heck of a lot left, eh? people who define themselves by their things will always be reaching for the newest and most improved... it's truly sad... being like that contributes greatly to depression

as I learn about the world, I see that the rate of mental distress in the rest of the world, including the underdeveloped and developing nations, is lower... community bands around one who is suffering and those who we label here as psychotic, in other cultures are actually revered as seers and shamans and healers...

my material needs include a roof over my head that doesn't leak, healthful food on my plate, a warm coat against the cold, a good book to read... I don't have cable, I have a 20 year old TV, a hardwired VCR, I drive a 5 year old car but that's cause the 10 year old one died 3 years ago so I invested in a newer used one...

I have no fear that I will be robbed of anything significant cause I don't own anything of significance... the trauma there would be the invasion of my space, not the loss of my stuff

I don't worry about paying off my credit card debt cause I don't incur it to satisfy an emptiness inside... instead I seek to fill my time and mind with causes that could benefit the greater good...

my one material indulgence was this laptop - while I needed it for work, the main benefit of owning it is that forums such as these are available so folks from different walks of life, different mind sets, different cultures can come together.

I am not a religious freak or holier than anyone else and I am not boring or stuffy... I am a child in God's world and stuff just distracts me from my spiritual journey

focus your energy on using your strengths to battle the despair... I have found the support of my peers in self-help groups extremely helpful in keeping me forward focused and hopeful about my future

You are actually freer if you don't have many possessions in my experience. I remember when I didn't have much and I was actually a lot happier. Now I'm giving away lots of stuff because it is just cluttering my life. Of course the people who want to make money out of you will keep pushing this stuff, but there comes a time when it has to stop. We are having our strings pulled and are virtually puppets of our stupid money, money system, where profits are important and people are not. Surely that must be about to change. We're saturated with rubbish we don't need. We are the ones who can change things by refusing to be sucked in by clever innovative profiteers. Of course technology is fascinating, but not as fascinating as really getting emotionally close to other human beings, which is much more satisfying. You are in fact one of the people who is more sane than the rest, and maybe that is why you feel you battle with "mental health" problems. It's the people with the sensitivity to see that this is a stupid system who are most likely to be labelled mentally disturbed, when in fact they are saner than the rest, who blindly accept the commercialisation of their lives. So don't put yourself down for how you feel. Instead give yourself a pat on the back for being sick of the nonsense and don't despair. Join a peer counselling group and find out what is going on in the world.Good luck.

Possessions are the sign of spending, nothing more. Happiness is not judged by possessions. IF you like a home with few posessions, then have a home with few possessions.

There will be a point in everyone's life when they look back and realize that those possessions did nothing but lower their bank balance. And when the relatives of that person go through those posessions how many will be kept and how many will be given to charity or sold in a garage sale. Been there with my Dad.

I take pride in the things I have. I don't have all the latest electronic gadgets, the biggest TV, the latest car, etc. I have a house that reflects me as a person and not the values of others.

I like my house, I like my life, I like me!

Honey I am on disability myself and cannot afford any of the materialistic things that you have mentioned so don't feel bad alright.

You have a computer obviously because you are on it now. If you are like me and have a mental problem you don't get much from the government and you need to squeeze every penny that you can. Don't feel bad honey you are not alone in this world, there are plenty of us out here. Good Luck

Its called Social Anxiety. There is a great book on the subject written by Alain De Botton. Its hard to not feel the pressure that society and the Media puts on us but try and concentrate on making yourself happy in other ways. Possessions may give brief happiness, but true happiness has nothing to do what what you own.

I don't think it's what you own that counts. I've known people who have gone into crazy debt trying to "keep up with the Jones" and living way beyond their means.

Our household income is fairly high, but we live very frugal. It's better to know that we can put our child through college and invest in retirement.
