Yes, haveing a completely black cat is rare, because it is true a black cat with have a few white or brown hairs on their body somewhere. I have a black cat and the only thing on her that isn't black is the very very tip of her tail, which is white.

No. When I worked for vets, we had lots of completely black cats come in. What I never saw was a natural brown cat in the mixed breed population - only in purebreds like the Havana Brown & Burmese. I always wondered how they got those colors?

Smoke colors are rarer in the general cat population, too (where the color is only on half or less of the hair shaft, with white towards the body).

I have a black cat, she's about 5 years old, and she has a white hair here and there. Her sister is completely black also, with the exception of that one white hair, here and there.

Having a completely black cat is rare, but not too totally rare.

A few hundred years ago, all black cats and kittens were killed because people thought they were eveil. This is why they aren't as common today.

Slag is a cute name, BTW. =)

I know a few pure black cats, all of whom were good looking creatures! But be extra careful about letting him out at night, as black cats are harder to see and are therefore more frequently hit by cars.
