Okay I must refer to all the Myth's on this questions

1. Pregnancy can occur but its a 0.1% chance sterilization 0.5%

2. Pregnancy was very common in the 80"s and 90"s but since then the IUD have been perfected (notice the lady who said she had a child on the IUD didn't state when? The child has to be in the teens or twenties.

3.The way the IUD works is unknown some of the speculations are:

It aborts a fertilized egg (which In the case of Mirena might not be the case due to the fact I haven't had a period in 3 yrs)

It changes the texture in your uterus (cooper or hormones)

It redirects the sperm (using the cooper or hormones)

Tricks your body to think your already pregnant (since there is a foreign object in your uterus already)

This is whats thought but none have been confirmed but that IT DOES work.

Given that its failure rate is 0.1% No back up is really needed. You can come home that same day after insertion and have unprotected sex. I did and 3 yrs later (knock on wood) no pregnancy. If it eases your mind then go ahead but its not necessary

Yes you do need to get a backup method like spermicides. Remember, there's no fool-proof contraception but using extra backups minimise the chances of getting pregnant. But using spermicides only kills the sperm and still leaves you at risk of getting an STD so you could use a condom or better still, discuss with a doctor.

If you're in a monogamous relationship, have him tested for any infection, if he's free, then you could use the spermicide along with the IUD.

No u will NOT get pregnant with the IUD but do u now how the IUD works?
Well u have your period and ovulate about 2 wks after....
The IUD is inserted into your Uterus , when u release you eggs they will became pregnant and 2 wks later the pregnant eggs will try to get into you uterus but the IUD will not allowed that to happen so every time u get your period there is a HUGE chance of u bleeding heavily>(That is because the IUD does not stop u from getting pregnant but it stops your uterus from accepting the eggs with the 2 wk baby in it.)

IUD i believe is almost full prooff. but not 100%. nothing is except abstinence. but i had used and iud before. the only painful part of it was uncomfortability of the doctor putting it in and takign it out a couple of years later. i believe they can last up to 3 years now. that was a number of years ago. not sure what new technology how long they can last now. but i never once became pregnant when i was using this device. i used it 2 different times in my life.

Your doctor should have thoroughly explained all of this to you prior to your leaving his or her office. Here.

"Things you should know:
IUDs do not protect against STIs. Individuals who do not know the sexual health status of their partners, or feel they might be at risk for an STI, should use condoms to protect against infections."

And also, you don't have to use a condom to protect against pregnancy if you have a copper IUD. Copper IUDs are often used as emergency contraception within the first week after the unprotected sex occurs. Talk to your medical professional, girl!!!! You need to be in the know, especially about your sexual health and protection!!!

As far a i know, IUD is one of the best birth controll methods around, but it is always safe to use a back-up method, and i would continue using it as long you are sexually active.

Two of my daughters has an IUD, and the one is using a condom because she just got it and and she's playing it safe.
So it wouldn't hurt to be on the safe side for at least one month.

that is been shown that a woman can get pregnant after combating delivery administration for below an afternoon. diverse BC pills carry diverse hormones and diverse hormone stages. Your physique needs time to conform with diverse stages. i might use returned up for a month just to verify. Beats the alternative, does not it?

I'm not sure if you have to but every person is different and I believe it is possible to get pregnant with any form of birth control. I would say if you really don't want another child to have a back up birth control. Like a condom or simply have him pull out before ejaculating.
