Karshi or Termez, Uzbekistan, hands down.
- The terminal buildings are not air conditioned. Temps in the summer regularly exceed 110 deg F.
- There are no arrival/departure lounges (you walk through a steel prison-like gate, past machine-gun toting police, onto the cracked, pitted, weed-infested ramp).
- There are no concessions. Bring your own food and *bottled* water, and forget about buying souvenirs. The nearest Starbucks is in Europe.
- There are no restrooms. The outhouse is adjacent to the dirt parking lot, if you can find your way through the cloud of flies. Be prepared to squat over a hole in the ground, and bring your own TP. Don't look down the hole -- the mass of wriggling maggots may ruin your day.
- The only air service is via Uzbekistan Airways, on clapped-out old Tupolev TU-154's or Ilyushin IL-114's with bald tires, broken seats, no overhead bins (there's a shelf like on a bus) and air conditioning that doesn't work. The only destination is Tashkent.
- On the plus side, from Tashkent you can get out of Uzbekistan!

in my opinion (and Ive been to over 35 airports the worst airport that i have landed and departed from was Miami International in Miami Florida. Not only was it very disorganized, but the people that work in the airport were very unfriendly and discourteous. Baggage claim was a nightmare and so was customs. Never again booking a flight which goes to Miami.

In the US I will agree with Miami.
Of course I have not been to every airport, the worst I have been in was Madrid. Security was a joke (this was post 9/11/01). There were two metal detectors, I swear they were not turned on. People walked through in two lines non-stop. There was a grand total of one policeman on duty for these two lines.

Manila International Airport. Lots of beuarucracy, corruption and unnecessary restrictions. Baggage claim conveyor delivers the luggages pretty late, due to unscrupolous ground crew inspecting the luggages for possible theft. Porter services andTaxi (transport) prices are above the neck, its a total rip-off, etc.

According to the net, Taupo Airport in New Zealand is the worst. My least favorite has been London's Heathrow. It's old, huge, and you walk for what feels like miles from one terminal to the next. Plus the food prices were outrageous! (But I guess that's common at any airport)
