Listen don't cry yet. I have a basement full of vinyl records, 8 track tapes, cassette tapes, VHS video tapes and other things I cherish. Boo hoo. Your pile of obsolete stuff just grows as you age.

WELL no dear no need to panic ....... the cd rom are still in practice when now almost everyone has a dvd player ...
the next big thing blu ray disk which will be using higher frequency so that the distance between bit is reduced effectively increasing the bit density will arrive....
but still it will not certainly throw out dvd as many legalities have to be maintained...
but ya the no of days for cd rom are numbered as are case of audio magnetic tapes .............
But the quality and price is still a issue........

DVDs will never be unusable as long as you have something to play them on. Bluray will probably be the next big thing and eventually everything will be purchased via download. Bluray players are expensive right now but the Playstation 3 will be able to play them and the price will drop as fast as it did with dvds. But your dvds will last a lifetime as long as you take care of them.

Video should have died when DVDs came in but are still in use, so don't worry, DVDs are around for a good few years yet.

Not obsolete, but superceded, like 8-track tapes and vinyl.
As Tommy Lee Jones said in "MIB": "Looks like I'll have to buy the 'White Album' again."

Doubtful. DVDs are so prevalent and the players so widely deployed, they are not going anywhere anytime soon.

blueray
one disk holdes 24GB
THE HD DVD IS GOOD BUT THE PS3 IS UESING BLUERAY AND SINCE THE BLUERAY DISK HOLDS MORE DATA THEN A HD DVD THAT HOLDS 15 GB, YOU GET A BETTER MOVIE EXPERIANCE WITH BLUERAY. HD DVD WILL BE OVER LOOKED LIKE THE SONY MINE DISKS.
