Pimples:
Pimples if you are lucky, will just be bumps on your face and left alone (and again you are lucky) will reduce (rivet back) to original skin. To help this you may apply anti-septic cream and gently clean it with mild non irritating soap and water.
Acne:
If you have a "Pimple" do not tease it, do above only, but some time in spite of all the care, it turns to "Acne". It get very large and swollen, develops a yellow head,with red or orange surrounding tissue, if it is regular, (in case of inverted kind you just feel pain and very large bump). Ultimately it irrupts. Yellow head is just an infected follicle, it may hoes serum for a while, ultimately will dry out leaving a dent in the skin tissue. If you are lucky, it will not be a large dent.
The inverted kind is more painful but may not irrupt, may get ingested with luck and leave no sign. If it does not get ingested it may irrupt also and leave even deeper indent. In rare case it leaves a permanent dump.
To day dermatologist are able to treat the damaged skin with Lasers to restore it with some good results. Plastic surgeons can do wonders.
Pimple can occur at any age, but mostly between 10 and 30, it is suspected that, it has much to do with Hormonal changes and imbalance.

A couple of pimples is just pimples - but a large number of pimples clustered together that refuse to heal is considered acne.
