I think both the male & female avatars are not broad enough in terms of age. I wonder what the age range is on Yahoo! Answers.....and how many people would choose to find a more mature cartoon version of their online alter ego!
Of course you don't have to use an avatar. You can always take a picture of yourself and turn it into a cartoon, or use something else.
But, this is a good question and a good thing to bring attention to the avatar creators. We could use some real diversity.

Maybe there supposed to express the person's inner youth lol. I think all avatars look cheesy, everyone should switch to actual pictures/backgrounds from the internet.
