Bearing in mind it's a long-haul flight,I'm looking for cheapness but I'm prepared to pay a bit extra to avoid being bored/restless.

Personally, when flying long haul I prefer to fly direct as it's less hassle than having to stopover. Thai Air are excellent - good leg room, good food and good onboard entertainment. British Airways also fly direct to Bangkok, but I don't think they're as good as Thai and the service is certainly worse. Otherwise, Eva Air, the Taiwanese airline, is pretty good, and they do a very good value premium economy (at least they used to). They fly direct from London to Bangkok.

However, price-wise you may find that the Middle Eastern airlines are better value for money. Gulf, Qatar and Emirates are all
excellent airlines. Do check the stopover times carefully - Qatar quite often have really bad connections and you have to stay overnight. Emirates tend to have good connections and you could even do a couple of days in Dubai, if the mood takes you.

Have flown with at least 7 airlines to Thailand , Thai Airways takes some beating , book early and you will get a good price , its not worth trying to save a bit of money the cheap airlines are bad , didn't think much to Emirates either , they were late taking off and boarded the passengers before the luggage , had to sit and wait for bags to be loaded , used Thai many times and never had a bad experience yet !

If you are looking for the cheapest fare,I suggest you check the web.Beside the normal 1st class, business class, economy and excursion fare,I am sure there are a lot of special fares(air tickets) and packages being offered by airlines or travel agencies. As far as I know there are special offered air tickets which depends on the time of travel,e.g when you travel after midnight. There are airlines which offer special fare for it.Moreover cheap fares are also being offered during festive seasons or school holidays.

Therefore I suggest you pick a few airlines which travel from your country to your destination and ask for the cheapest fare available.By the way just for your info, air ticket fare are being charge not only based on the distant travelled but some are also based on the types of air crafts as well as the facilities offered by the airlines and again if you are planning to travel during high peak season,I suggest you make your booking a few months in advance.
I am a student and when the school holiday started,I used to go for vacation abroad.I am the type of person who always made last minute decision where to spend my vacation.Believe it or not,I always ended up travelling 1st or business class, because the economy class was already fully booked. So please don't be like me...........such a bad habit

You will get bored anyway so try a new low cost airline next year. It flys to Hong Kong and is called OasisHongKong. I have a ticket for £141 one way! All you have to get is a low cost flight from Air Asia or other airline. It should be about £60 return to Thailand

I'm flying on 29th Nov so email me after to find out how it goes email j_emmans@yahoo.co.uk

Nok Air (subsidiary of Thai Airways International) [31]
One-Two-GO (subsidiary of Orient Thai) [32]
Thai AirAsia (subsidiary of AirAsia) [33]

I've flown many times and almost always find the best fares on China Airlines, out of LAX, SFO or SEA, on the west coast. Good service and good food is a plus. I don't even look at other airlines anymorel...and book directly on their website for lowest fares. www.china-airlines.com Have a great trip. I'm going there next week for several months.

Finnair is a good choice, they have a short flight time from Helsinki to BKK, and they have many flights during the week (I believe the most flight for any airline from Europe) so you can choose a schedule that suits for you and not the other way around.

Thai Airways is immaculate!

i flew with them from Australia to Thailand last year and it was just great. there is lots of room, even in economy and the service is five star...

i have to say that for airline food...it was pretty good. i travel with a little girl and nothing is too much trouble...

How about tryig a meta-search site for the best way to compare many travel sites at once. I use Travelgrove.com, once you hit the results page, you can filter out airlines you like. I think Thai & Singapore Airlines are the best out there.

Try them!
