I love broth with dumplings and fresh cooked bread and butter or mince and dumplings, or lasagne, or mince and gravy with mashed potato and yorkshire puddings.

Give me the recipe of anything truly scrumptious so I can try it out please....

not for the faint hearted

I love fried chicken livers
flour them and fry them in a pan with oil and some sliced onions and bacon then make a gravy from the pan stickings and serve with freshly baked cheese scones (american biscuits>?)

and a glass of orange juice to cancel out the cholesterol

A big bowl of homemade pinto beans!! Take dried beans & rinse well, then soak overnight. Place in medium pot with some chopped fatback ( if you can't find fatback @ your store, ask the butcher for some "streak o lean" ) Add 1 onion chopped medium, 1 clove garlic minced & salt & pepper. Simmer several hours til beans are nice & tender, adding 1/2 stick butter after about the 1st hour. Serve with homemade cornbread!!

Gulaschsuppe - a cross between goulash and soup, with either dumplings or crusty bread. No specific recipe, but there's plenty in books.

Jacket potatoes with naughty butter and baked beans and cheese on top.

Or thick hot soup with fresh bread.

Steak and ale pie:
500g stewing steak
1 tbsp plain flour
bottle of sweetish ale, such as Marston's Pedigree
salt and pepper
oxo cube dissolved in 200ml hot water

preheat oven to 180c/gas 5

Fry the chunks of steak in oil to brown, then pop them in a casserole dish-you want the beef about 4-5cm from the top
stir in the flour and seasoning, stir in stock, then pour over enough ale to cover. cook about 1.5-2 hours, stirring occasionally, then remove and allow to stand while you make the pie crust (top up liquid as necessary) turn oven up to 200/gas 6
Mix 6 tablespoons self-raising flour with 3 tablespoons of suet, a good pinch of salt, and dried herbs if you like them. Add enough water to make a pliable dough, not too wet.
Roll out on a floured surface to about 2.5 cm thick and big enough to cover casserole with 2cm to spare all round.
Simply place pastry lid gently over casserole and fold spare edges in to make a nice chunky crust. brush with egg or milk and return to the oven for at least 20 mins, or until crust is risen and brown.
Very simple and divine. I also add kidney and sometimes black pudding, depending on what I've got in. I hope you enjoy it! (I'm making one tomorrow, yum!)
