What is a normal pulse rate?

My doctor tells me that my heart is a little faster then normal, but it's nothing to worry about. But when I wake up the past few days, it's been racing. It only lasts a few min though.

sounds like your having an anxiety attack... and yes, you can have them while sleeping, resting or just waking up and, of course, several times during the day.. the more important rate to consider is your blood pressure.

the normal heart rate range for an adult is 60-100 beats/ min. If you like your heart is racing when you wake up, you most probably are suffering from axiety attacks.

Access your lifestyle.....are you highly anxious, or highly stressed? Are you taking on far more work than you can manage? Do you drink coffee or other caffeinated drinks in the evening? What is your diet and exercise regime like? Do you have ways of unwinding after a stressful day other than alcohol or cigarettes?

Also, if you're on any medications at all, it may have certain side effects, include palpitations. If that's the case, do have a talk with your dr, and see if you can be prescribed something milder instead.

A faster than normal heart rate may also indicate an unhealthy lifestyle. Are you overweight? Not eating well? Or simply starving yourself? All these, plus unbalanced blood sugar levels can all contribute to a racing heart symptomatology. Also, if you've got any other underlying medical problem, that might be the case as well.

When you wake up, do you recall any dreams at all? You might be have just had a nightmare for that matter. Try keeping track of your dreams if you can, drink some soothing chamomile before bed, and try to limit any stressful activities or readings at least an hour before bed.

If nothing else helps, it may help talking to a psychologist, as it may indicate inadequate dealing with stress or any other psychological stressors that may be bothering and overwhelming you at the moment.

Hope that helps.

When you say racing how fast do you mean. I would count your pulse and the report the rate and the timing to your doctor. There are a couple of unlikely events that can cause tacking during sleep. Sleep apnea would be one of them. Make sure that doctor has all the info and then follow his instructions. I do not really think you have a large problem. But do give the doc a call.

In medical terms.. we call it Tachycardia.. a fast heart beat...

well.. when its racing and high palpations can be felt... try to drink water...and breathe... it's probably heartburn...

and please DO NOT SKIP MEALS... eat heavy breakfast always... breakfast is the most important meal of the day...

if you're still uncomfy, have a doctor check it again... I suggest go immediately to a specialist, cardiologist...:)
