1. Nürnberger Christkindles Markt - the most famous and biggest one

2. Münchner Christkindl Markt- at the Marienplatz...Munich is always nice anyway

3. Freiburg - smaller but charming

4. Constance/Lake Constance- quite special as it s located at the harbour

5. Cologne- not typical for that region but some of my friends have already been there and told me that it was (surprisingly) nice

But according to my experience, the nicest ones are those in the smaller cities-preferably in Oberbayern- so they re not that known. I ve been to one in Wasserburg/Inn, a middle age town in the south east of Munich which was built on a peninsula and it was gorgeous. Anyway, the entire region there is lovely.
Salzburg in Austria also has a nice and famous XMas market.

Nurembergs's Christkindlesmarkt (Christ Child Market) is the most famous and one of the oldest. I really enjoyed my visit - not only to the market but the city is fascinating.

Go to Boppard...it is a tiny village near the Rhine but the markets are great and not expensive.
