They feel like shooting pains but only last for a second. They come at weird times like when I'm at work. I am a very healthy 19 year old female. I dont have any other health problems and I work-out daily. Could it be stress related?

if the pain worsens with inspiration, u can have a pulled muscle or just simply gas. if the pain is intermittent and only lasts about 5 minutes at a time, it can be angina pectoris which I doubt, taking for granted you are a healthy 19 year old. Do you snort coke? Because that could be why too... Does the pain radiate anywhere else (e.g., arm/s, neck, back, etc), and is the pain accompanied by any other symptoms such as nausea, sweating, lightheadedness, etc? If yes, see your primary doc and request a full cardiac workup just to be sure your free of any hidden cardiac disorder...otherwise I wouldn't worry too much because it's probably nothing serious...

It could be that you're having anxiety attacks. I had them for a while after a very stressful time in my life. I took the prescribed medication for a while but it seemed to make me lethargic and unable to perform at work. For about 5 years, I have taken these supplements: SAMe, 5-HTP and L-Tyrosine. I also take B-Complex vitamins. I haven't had an anxiety attack since then.

You may not have that problem at all. If the chest pains are accompanied by emotional distress followed by depression, then it may be anxiety/depression disorder. If not, you may need to see a cardiologist or just get a physical from your regular doctor.

First of all, what is your job or what are your activities? Chest pains described as heaviness, with radiation to the left hand or the jaw is associated with myocardial infarction or heart attack. It is more common in the elderly, however, there are cases of heart attack in the younger population . In some cases they are asymptomatic meaning they dont feel anything! That is probably what you want to hear or to rule out. Meaning , hopefully this isnt it.
Common among younger generations is chest pain described as pricking ( as in a needle!) , lasting only for a few seconds. This pain is usually associated with activities such as repetitive typing, cleaning as using the mop, or repetitive throwing of the ball as in sports activites. When the painful area is touched by an examiner or doctor, there is usually pain , this might be costochondritis, meaning superficial pain only. It is pain from the muscles. This is usually relieved upon intake of common pain relievers. However, I suggest that you be seen by a doctor! At least for peace of mind.

to me it sounds like an anxiety attack , if you are stressed in any way the mind can play very bad tricks on the body.i had bad panic attacks and i was under alot of stress for a long time i swear i thought i was having a heart attack , this started happening to me at the age of 18 now 32 i have managed to control them...but for your own peace of mind i suggest maybe getting a heart test done just in case , and if they find nothing wrong then you know it may be due to anxiety , at least it will put you at ease.

take care

Only a physician will be able to tell you if everything is ok with your heart, so go get checked out. Meanwhile, here is a link to an article on angina from WebMD.

More than likely it is stress. But if you feel it keep going go get it checked out. You might have acid reflux. Although, I doubt it.

I think you should maybe go see a doctor. It might not be anything serious but it can't hurt. Besides if it is something serious, they can catch it early and help you. Good luck!
