A cult is any group which teaches doctrines or beliefs that deviate from the biblical message of the Christian faith. It is very important that we recognize cults and avoid any involvement with them. Cults often teach some Christian truth mixed with error, which may be difficult to detect. There are some features common to most cults:
They do not adhere solely to the sixty-six books of the Bible as the inspired Word of God. They add their "special revelations" to the Bible as equally authoritative.
They do not accept that our relationship to Jesus Christ is a reality "by grace through faith" alone, but practice instead a salvation by works.
They do not give Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, full recognition as the second Person of the Trinity, composed of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Some of these groups are Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, the Unification Church, Unitarians, Spiritists, Scientologists, and others.

Dear Yachoo!
They call themselves Jehovah's Witnesses but they do not bear witness of the awesome uncreated Creator of the universe.
Rather they bear witness to what the Watchtower says and therefore I refer to them as Watchtower Witnesses.
They appear to be nice people BUT beware of appearances. They are truly wolves in sheep's clothing.
Believer gave you an excellent answer to your question. Kehkohjon gave excellent links if you seriously want to know. But SHAME on you God's Truth. You are not living up to your name.
Have you ever been short-sheeted? Being short-sheeted is one of the best ways I can describe what the JWs teach. I have several relatives who are Witnesses and I have been praying for them for the past several years. So far one relative who was a JW left after she accidentally discovered the lies Witnesses tell about sexual abuse by JWs.
Today a JW left a tract at my home. It is titled "The End of False Religion is Near!" It goes on to describe characteristics of False Relgion and says "False Relgion ... tolerates immoral sex." My cousin had not been going door-to-door as a JW for a whole year when her husband was dying. After a period of mourning she was finally ready to go back into the field. The first thing she did to be able to answer any questions put to her was to read all of the news stories regarding sexual abuse within the JWs organization. Then she looked at the JW answers to each of the incidents. What she saw horrified her and caused her to leave the JWs after 40 years.
Nornally in a case of sexual abuse it is a matter of he said she said. The JWs require 2 or more witnsses and when the victim can't come up with a corroborating witness she is victimized all over again.
I have warned my family members who still are JWs that I pity them because they will be held accountable not only for their own sin when they appear before the Judge but they will also be held accountable for the people who listened to the lies they tell.

I used to think they were strange until I became one.Now I realize it is a great privilege to be named after the God of all creation and to go to people and speak to them about Him and his kingdom.
Jesus said his followers would be hated.Jesus was not only hated for doing the same thing but he was murdered. So as Jehovah's Witnesses we know to expect criticism, prejudice and hostility. However our love for our God and the wonderful blessings promised far outway anything man can do to us

A judgement or an opinion?
I will give my opinion.
A person finds a religion.
They become part of that religion.
They learn the teachings of that religion.
They practice the teaching of that religion.
Some religions require that they go on a mission.
This one does: They go on a mission
This may include moving family around or walking family around, so they do.
They teach younger members.
They teach children.
They present younger members and children at our front doors to head missions for learning practices and to instill belief in religion part of the conditioning.
They learn how to take umbrage (lots of it lol)
They learn fear.
They learn judgement.
They learn to point the stick of sin.
They tell you that you will not be saved if not join the religion. So you are a sinner unto Jehovah.
I think that they need to focus on their own spiritual journey and leave mine alone.
When they knock I open the door, I say I have my own religion, would they like to book a tarot reading @ $60.00 an hour of my time (with a wry smile) as my time is very important....(I smile again, blink brightly) waiting for a response... which is generally a shocked 'no thank you' and they leave VERY QUICKLY. ;) ;) :)
(and probably pray for me)

They may be a bit annoying, but they are very friendly and polite and always willing to help out, my Jehova friend is calling on me on Wednesday, so I am going to take her out for a coffee, that way when I've had enough I can leave.
