Does it cost to get an avatar (hope i've spelled it correctly) ?

It's free. When you log in to your e-mail, or onto answers, click on the box with the gray smiley face. Or underneath it it says edit my profile, the there's a row that says edit my avatar. That should bring you to the page where you choose and dress your avatar.

If you have a 360 page then you will be given a choice to use a pers. photo or create your avitar, then click on that.
