As long as your use was limited to experimentation you are probably okay. In fact the service academies allow people who have experimentally used weed to be admitted.
The key is how much did you use it and are you using it now? Also, were you ever arrested for possession or distribution? They may want you to provide somewhat more detailed information than what you suggest, but chances are a recruiter will want your enlistment bad enough he will help you come up with an acceptable answer.
Of course, it goes without saying that you should be able to pass a drug test when you enlist. Shouldn't be a problem if your last use was over a year ago.

The TRUTH is this: the Air Force doesn't want you if you've smoked marijuana but the others will still gladly take you. You WILL be slightly hindered, however, b/c you won't be able to reach certain "security levels" that are required for some of the more desirable jobs. You'll be "red-flagged" in your record for admitting to previous drug use. This is a fact.
I hate to suggest lying but that is exactly what you should do in this case. As of right now, you've never done a drug in your life. Good luck and do NOT make the mistake of doing drugs again if you sign up. God bless.

When was the last time you smoked pot? I know for the Air Force they force you to do a blood test- now, normally after a month, you can fool a pee test, but blood tests/ hair tests are different. I'd say- at least a year clean? Keep in mind, if you fail the drug test, you will never be able to be admitted.. Ever.

They are looking for honesty most. Right now, I'm pretty sure they would take you anyway. Very bad idea to take those kinds of risks while you are in the military. I was in the Air Force from 85 to 89. I was investigated en masse with my basic training class three times before I ever made it to my permanent duty station. Very sneaky investigators too. Masqueraded as citizens hosting for holidays, etc.,

Yes but not if your gay! If you took an unclean urine test you would not be accepted, Although currently the FBI is trying to lessen the rules for those entering their corps so that more bodies can fill the spaces available, they are trying to get it changed from the current rule that if you have smoked bud in the past fifteen years you cannot be in the FBI. makes you wonder huh?

The answer is "Yes". Honesty is in your best interest. When asked if I had smoked. I answered yes. As long as you weren't a habitual user your fine. It won't stop your from getting a clearance as long as your truthful.

Trust me your recruiter will get you around that. Besides I saw more drugs in the Army than I'd ever seen before I joined.

Whatever you say, they test you. If they DQ'd every person that experimented in high school...
Don't specify "over a year" (they'll pin you down to months).. say "close to two years"or "copule of years. (past one is closer to two! and sounds better)
Vernacular is a wonderful thing!
