Despite morning rush hour, where would you go ? What would it cost roughly and why this choice over another?

SUMMARY
‘Non-main stream’– Purple: continental food at the Bongo room on weekends; Kenteman: West Loop - Lou Mitchell's fry-up breakfasts and comfort food lunches, reasonably priced menu’s of Wishbone and Le Peep; Steve B: Wheatfield’s; ~NEO~: Tempo Café, purportedly the best omelets in town with skillet potatoes.

Reasonable – Lena: Denny’s; Jefferson: preferably IHOP, seconding Lena’s Denny’s; Loves2Ask: IHOP ardent supporter, Dunkin Donuts in reserve; efel: McD;

Alternative – ctodosbienlocos: soup and eggs on the corner of milwaukee and armitage; Simply…:’Dncink’; Boomer Wisdom: Taking turns in bed with warmed champagne. “Don't suggest hitting rush hour traffic.” - Not sure about doing a Kate Moss diet with malted champagne. Sounds frisky.

CHOICE
- Kenteman’s spread appear most reasonably priced, relatively centrally located and ‘timely’ on manic mornings
- Comparable suggestions include Purple’s Bongo room, Steve B’s Wheatfield’s, ~NEO~’s Tempo Café, bear visiting on weekends.
- IHOP voiced by Jefferson and Loves2Ask, is a good diner fairly readily available across states, as are Lena’s and efel’s fast food joints, reserved for the odd weekends.

Tempo Cafe
6 E Chestnut St
Chicago, IL 60611-2012View Map

Directions: El: Red Line to Chicago

The Scene

The room is clean and bright, with a tile floor, oak accents and a subtle nautical theme (model ships hang here and there from the ceiling). Several comfy booths, about 30 tables and an expansive patio accommodate Tempo's round-the-clock crowd--tipsy Rush Street revelers and night owls in the early a.m. followed by coffee-drinking blue collar folk later on.

The Food

It's hard to miss the tempting, wafting scent of Tempo's renowned omelets. These three-egg big boys are served over crispy fried potatoes right in the skillet with all the standard filling choices, plus out-there menu options like the Jamaican (bananas, walnuts and honey) and the Michigan (apples and cheddar). For lunch and dinner, there's a healthy selection of salads, soups and sandwiches, from clubs and hearty half-pound burgers to a tasty French dip. "Deluxe" sandwiches cost upward of 8 bucks but include fries, fruit, slaw and soup.

Bed.

It's cheap. And it's better. Especially if you include a bottle of champagne, and take turns with your mate cooking it up.

Don't suggest hitting rush hour traffic after the champagne, though -- but it's great on weekends, birthdays, mother's day, father's day, etc.

IHOP all the way... They have delicious breakfast food as well as brunch & lunch. But if you're on the go, then Dunkin Donuts is a secondary option
