Hi there !
Go by your consultants advise and dont start any medicine just like that !
Anti hypertensives are to be chosen depending on several factors like : age, heart condition, any other associated condition of the body like kidney problem etc etc..
The classification is done like "beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, diuretics" etc etc..
Dosage has got individual variations !
Best judge would be a GOOD physician !
best wishes !

There are several classes of drugs used for hypertension;
diuretics, alpha blockers, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, A.c.e. (angiotensin) inhibitors. Each of these classes has more than one specific drug.

Instead of taking advice from the Cardiologist why do you put such question here. It is very risky ok. If some one advice you to take a medicine will you? So don't ask for drug which can create problem for your life.

There are a whole range of drugs which can be taken. Rather than me listing them, I can recommend a really good website...

Hope this helps.
