I think they should be man made objects. That was the original idea in ancient times and I think it is interesting that at the beginning of the 21st century we are putting together a new list.
I think the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal and the Pyramids of Gizeh should be on the new list of 7. No discussion there (in my humble opinion).
"Wonders" that should have been on the 21-list, but are not: The Sixtine Chapel and the medieval fortress in Jaisalmer.
On the other hand I was stunned when I learned that Castle Neuschwanstein did make the 21-list!!! Okay, it is a pretty castle (built by a madman) and Disney put a copy in all their themeparks but it is in no way a "wonder of the world".

I don't know what sites should be included in the list, but to your first question, I would bias more toward natural landscapes over man made alternatives in the elimination process which are recent in age. The reason is that accomplishments are sooner surpassed by another in the modern age, so the wonder of the creation of the man made object becomes less unique, less beyond what we think mankind is capable of. The first skyscraper is a wonder, the 1 millionth one is another building.
Edit: Ty, Atticus. I'm not familiar with those buildings, but I believe Frank Lloyd Wright designed that Guggenheim. He might have designed all of them.

7 wonders of the world should be of natural objects. For example pick something unusual to emphasize the word "wonders" that way people will become more informed. The average person knows about 80% of the time if a new invention has been created.

Seven Wonders of the World The Seven Wonders of the World were works of art and architecture considered by the ancient Greeks and Romans to be the most fabulous creations of antiquity. They were the Pyramids of Egypt, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Temple of Artemis, the Statue of Zeus, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes, and the Pharos of Alexandria.

I think it's one of the most significant "wonders" being worked on at the moment and, more so than the rest of the nominees, it is a symbol of the FUTURE wonders that mankind is reaching for... The same would apply to Dolly being nominated.

i think the seven wonders of the world are completely diff. from each other not in the fact that they are diff places, but that the environment are oppostes of ecah other. And they each represent part of the world. Like all other environment either fal in one of their categories. Does this make sense?
