I recently was prescribed an antibiotic by my doctor for brochitis. It's somewhat like amoxacilian but is a little more potent.

Well, my chest was feeling tight earlier and to make a long story short, my grandmother gave me one of her morphine's to try and relax me so I could catch some z's.

Now I feel really tired and everytime I drift off to sleep I suddenly catch myself in fear that I will stop breathing in my sleep and die.

Can someone please tell me what is wrong and will I be alright?

Well Betty, I guess it's kind of too late for a lecture now, isn't it? Yes I was wrong to take the pill, but I'm really scared now and I'm looking for answers, not smart a$s remarks..

You are not going to die. One of the medications is an antibiotic and the other one is a painkiller and a potent one at that. You should never take someone Else's medication even though many people do. You could have a bad reaction to the two of them mixed together. Don't worry you should be alright. The next time someone is trying to calm you down don't take a painkiller ask for a benzodiazopine like Xanax, Valium or Ativan.

You will wake up, you may be drowsy at first when you wake up in the morning but you should be fine. Please for your own sake do not take anything that is not prescribed. A pain killer will not calm you down either. Good Luck

Drug interaction is a good possibility, and you *should* be worried about respiratory or cardiac failure. Stay awake, stay active, and if your grandmother or someone else is available to be with you, let them know what's going on.

If not, have a friend of family member telephone you at half hour intervals to keep you awake, and if you don't respond, make sure that they know to send the ambulance to your place right away.

If you're having trouble breathing now or are feeling very dizzy, have someone take you to ER right now. DO NOT try to drive yourself for obvious reasons.

And please, please NEVER take someone else's meds or mix meds without consulting a pharmacist. The first is illegal, as someone pointed out, and the second one is dangerous.

Go to ED now. Difficult to ascertain whether breathing probs are due to possible allergic reaction to antibiotic or to Morphine. Opiates decrease your respirations as well. Possible panic reaction to situation, but only MD diagnoses. Good luck- feel better !
PS Never take grandma's meds again

Go to sleep. Yuo will be OK. It takes a pretty good sized dose of morphine to kill anyone. Looks like Grandma's plan, seeing you have been up most of the night worrying.

You must ALWAYS finish any prescriptions for antibiotics that you receive from your MD, as for the other drugs - they are as required. Finish the antibiotics - have you tried warming up a glass of milk. Drinking it warm and laying down with the lights out under the covers? Heating up the milk creates L-trypo******* (spelling) a protein in milk that helps us sleep. We would give my son that when he was much younger to help him sleep - colic a parents worse nightmare.
