yes it is. only animals slurp. we are humans, we should know better. we are supposed to have manners. unless of course, manners and etiquette were never taught in the house hold by parents, then that would mean that the parents were never properly educated in table manners and proper etiquette when eating at the table or in public. you know what also is rude and annoying? when people suck on a piece of candy. they make these stupid, absurd special effects when sucking on a candy, like if the juices were flowing out and down their mouth. it irritates the bejeezus out of me. yes, it is rude...

"Rude" is culturally defined - and varies widely from location to location, and culture to culture. The answer to you question depends very much on what country you are eating and drinking in - the customs and mores of that country - what family group or subculture you are eating with, etc.

It all depends on the setting and who you're with. If you're at a fast food restaurant with close friends then it shouldn't really matter, however if you're in a fancy black-tie restaurant you might want to be careful to mind your manners.

Yes it is rude. It is about as bad as people that chew with their mouth open, sounding like a herd of cows.

In Japan, it is considered a compliment to the chef in the soba (noodles and soup) shops.
