AUD = Australian Dollars

So how much does it cost government to manufacture 1 average missile in Australian dollars? I'm calculating some statistics...Also after giving me the answer, how long (in days, months or years) will that amount of money (to manufacture that one missile) feed a child struck by poverty in Africa? I would like to know, thanks people :)

We Aussies dont make missiles we buy them from the US, so work out how much it costs them, then you need to factor in a hedge rate.

The current currency rate is 1 AUD = 0.757805 USD

But the current rate wont tell you a great deal

What missile?

An Evolved Sea Sparow Missile (ESSM) for mid-range ship defence?

Sidewinders carried by aircraft?

Harpoon Anti-Shipping missiles?

Small hand-held anti tank or anti-air missiles?

Either way it doesn't matter, because these thingsa re tremendously important and I wouldn't help you in some naive attempt to undermine the need for a properly equipeed Australian Defence Force.

Yes the situation in many African nations is terrible, which is why we commit aid there, and alot of it by comparison to most other countries.

But all the money in the world won't help the African situations, when many of them are dictated by criminal warlords who use it as extortion and a means of control over the starving.

In those situations you often need a peacekeeping and/or protection force to ensure that the food goes where it is needed.

Which means you need a military.

The idea that not spending a cent on the military, and instead give billions each year to charity is a noble notion, but un-realistic, so please don't target the ADF, and in turn it's people (who have done more to aid people in need around the world, yes in Africa too, than all the aid agencies in Australia combined).

The ADF does more for the needy in places like Africa than World Vision or anybody else.

And as for missiles, well stocks in Australia are scarily low, if anything we should be spending more money on missiles of all types, because if a large scale shooting war starts we could run out rather quickly.

Missile price's vary massively depending on type. I don't know what the exchange rate is so I will give it to you in US dollars.cruise missile cost about a 1 million. An anti-tank missile cost about 10,000 +. Air to air missile costs about 50,000 . I would imagine a village would be fed for at least a year or more if you stick with a simple diet of rice bread and some tinned meat. This would vary depending on size of the village.
