Thank u for asking these kind of question.
Jesus peace be upon him is the prophet of God and the Messiah
#The Messiah, son of Mary, was no other than a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) had passed away before him. And his mother was a saintly woman. And they both used to eat (earthly) food. See how We make the revelations clear for them, and see how they are turned away!#
The Quran: Chapter Al-Maeda, Chapter 5, Verse 75
-----------------------------------------------------------
Yes, Muslims believed that Jesus is not crucified by the Romans.
#That they(the Jews) said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah"; but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:#
The Quran: Chapter An-Nisa, Chapter 4, Verse 157
In this verse, the Muslims were told that Jesus peace be upon him is not crucified, but it was made to appear to them. Some sect of Christians also believe in this substitution theory.
The story about who was the man that being killed by the Roman is not mentioned anywhere in the Quran, and even in the hadith if i was not mistaken.
#Of some messengers We have already told thee the story; of others We have not; and to Moses Allah spoke direct.#
The Quran: Chapter An-Nisa, Chapter 4, Verse 164.
In this verse, God told us that there are some stories that were not revealed to us. Just like in this case, Allah did not tell us who was that man. According to the Gospel of Barnabas, the man is Judas the traitor. Who knows? But for a surety, they killed Jesus not.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
So if he was not killed, where he is now? The God answered in the next verse
#Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.#
The Quran: Chapter An-Nisa, Chapter 4, Verse 158
So the God said that He raised Jesus peace be upon him to somewhere, maybe heaven. Only God knows best.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
U must be asking, for what?
#There is not one of the People of the Scripture (the Jews and the Christians) but will believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them#
The Quran: Chapter An-Nisa, Chapter 4, Verse 159
So Jesus peace be upon him, will testify against the Christians, who supposely cast devils with his spirit that he never claimed that he is the son of God.
#And when Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! Didst thou say unto mankind: Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah? he saith: Be glorified! It was not mine to utter that to which I had no right. If I used to say it, then Thou knewest it. Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy Mind. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower of Things Hidden?#
#"Never said I to them aught except what Thou didst command me to say, to wit, 'worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord'; and I was a witness over them whilst I dwelt amongst them; when Thou didst take me up Thou wast the Watcher over them, and Thou art a witness to all things.#
#"If Thou dost punish them, they are Thy servant: If Thou dost forgive them, Thou art the Exalted in power, the Wise." #
#Allah will say: "This is a day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: theirs are gardens, with rivers flowing beneath,- their eternal Home: Allah well-pleased with them, and they with Allah: That is the great salvation, (the fulfilment of all desires). #
The Quran: Chapter al-Maeda, Chapter 5, verse 116-119
And Jesus peace be upon him will come down back to earth, just before the Day of Judgement, to fight the anti-Christ, or in Islam, called, al-Dajjal. He is the Messiah!
Hadith from Sahih Bukhari Volume 3, Book 34, Number 425:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, son of Mary (Jesus) will shortly descend amongst you people (Muslims) as a just ruler and will break the Cross and kill the pig and abolish the Jizya (a tax taken from the non-Muslims, who are in the protection, of the Muslim government). Then there will be abundance of money and no-body will accept charitable gifts.
O mankind! The messenger hath come unto you with the Truth from your Lord. Therefor believe; (it is) better for you. But if ye disbelieve, still, lo! unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth. Allah is ever Knower, Wise.

The idea that Jesus was not crucified is true only if you believe muslims. I don't know a reputable historian anywhere who would accept that. Secular historians tend to agree that he didn't rise from the dead because they are secular and ressurection is a miracle and secular people don't genenally accept miracles. But almost all historians accept that he was crucified. The New Testament writers said He was crucified(and they were there on the scene). Secular historians who lived at the time(tacitus, suetonius, thallus, pliny the younger, josephus) said he was crucified. For 600 years until Mohammad, there were thousands of things written about Christ and virtually nothing written that said he was not crucified. All of a sudden, 600 years later, this guy Mohammad comes along and says he got messages from God through an angel which he wrote down and called it the Koran and one of the things the angel told him was that Christ didn't die on a cross. The fact is that history has proven that he did die on a cross. The Koran was wrong. But Mohammad said the Koran was from God. Can God be wrong? I think maybe the Koran isn't from God.

When I went to the regional used bookstall, I observed a textbook used within the first yr of scholars who're being taught the Islamic religion. In simply the primary few pages the scholars are taught that God does no longer have a son. In the Christian faith, Jesus is the Son of God. In the Muslim religion, Jesus is a prophet. The Muslims don't love Jesus the best way the Christians do. they love a prophet even as Christians love the Son of God. Jesus is greater than a messenger of affection and compassion. He will pass judgement on the lifeless. He will indwell His fans. He will come once more and rule over the earth. You can love a sweet guy because the sweet guy, however what if he is also a loving father, a person who helped pull the deficient out of poverty, wiped clean up crime within the town, performs a musical device in a preferred band, and many others? We denigrate a character, making a one-dimensional individual, once we sum up anybody with only a line or 2. Let's love Jesus, who mentioned He was once the "Light of the World," the "Resurrection and the Dead," the "Way, the Truth and the Life," the "Bread of Life," and "he who's from God."

There are some muslims that believe as you have stated, that he was replaced by another.
There are other who believe that he survived the crusifixion and went to the lost tribes to the east, passing thru Afganistan,India, spending time with some of the lost tribes, eventually ending in Kashmir. Had a family, lived to a ripe old age, died and buried there. Check website in source box.
Consider that Caiphas thought that the body had been stollen from his followers; Pilate was suprised to hear that he was dead after such a short time; that Mary thought he was a gardener; that he ate bread, fish, and drank wine with the followers in the hiding place; that his legs were never broken; blood & water gushed forth from the body; Joseph of Aremethia requested that a 100 pound weight of herbs be brought after removing him from the cross; that he never resubjected himself to the execution.
Most laws require that if a man survives his execution, that is done over again until it is done correctly. Nueremburg executions in the middle of the last century had men with unusually strong necks hanged more thatn once, some with the executioner riding the body downward with the accused attached to the rope, to gauruntee the result. If Jesus was unable to be killed, then: what would be the harm of his executionsers to try it again and again? What better occassion to get his message across that he should be listened to and that his message important. Put in modern context, if a man survives the electric chair, hanging, or a firing squad, then his executioners and anyone else are more apt to listen to him and heed his words.
With few exceptions such as those Jews generally consider the dead body as unclean. It is not theJewish tradition to annoint the body. This has been the tradition for more than 3500 years. Those herbs were Healing herbs. Mir'am Al- Isa (ointment of Jesus) is still in use in parts of Africa and the Near East. If anyone needed Healing Herbs it was Jesus.
Blood does not gush forth from a dead body because there is no arterial circulation in a dead body. If there is no arterial circulaton, there is no pumping of the heart. So he must have been alive if there was the gushing of blood. Ask a doctor or butcher or mortician, for verification. The blood could ooze before it coagulates, but not gush.
Jesus was unrecognizable and mistaken as gardner because he was in disguise, capable of being injured and killed. He needed to go into hiding to prevent an instant replay, with the probability of his executioners being successful. As a gardener, he could escape undetected to his diciples in hiding. Ghosts do not eat or drink anything. His brother Thomas knew that he was not dead.
Consider for the sake of argument that he was dead and was a man come back from the dead. Why would the wounds be present? To be clinicaly dead the brain must lack oxygen for 6-10 minutes. Starving the brain of needed oxygen for a time in excess of 6.5 minutes itemperatures more than 0 degrees celcious or 32 degrees Fahrenheit results in irreversible brain damage.
In the Gospel of Barnabas, which is one of the cannocal gospels, written in Hebrew, the language of Jesus, outlawed by the Nicene Council 325 A.C.E. through the Holy Roman Empire the replacement passage is given. This makes sense. Jesus & Barnabass were friends loyal to one another. The last thing an aware friend would do is to give the escape path leading to the possible hiding place where harm could come to his friend.
Consider that NONE of the 4 Gospels are writtenin Hebrew or by the contemporaries of Jesus. The collection of books called Bible were voted upon. Humans are no different now then they have been in the past. The same is true for Humans in elevated positions that dictate policies that control and dominate the Human masses. Some will be worthy of trust, some will be unscrupulous. Most of the time corruption will influence the majority. The mess is left for those in the future who are seekers of the truth to correct.

Prophet Jesus did not die on the cross ( as there was not any reason for that). He was replaced by another man. Himself Jesus was taken into heaven being alive ,by God.
So thats why Jesus has to return back on the Earth what muslims are expecting. Jesus will retun to strugle with evil, to live for some time and to DIE ( as every creature has to go through physicall death).
It is clearly mentioned in the Quran.
In Bible there are words which Jesus said "the son of human ( or human being) will suffer and die" But if as christians belive Jesus is son of God why at that moment Jesus was talking about himself as HUMAN BEING or SON OF A MAN??? May be it is the pointer that somebody else will die on the cross ( what is actually happened)

He was replaced by a look alike at the cross and uplifted to heaven. The look-alike was crucified instead of him. This is what all muslims believe in. It is mentioned in the Quran several times, but sorry, cannot locate the exact verses now. Hope someone else has done already.
Peace.

Jesus (Isa a.s) in the Islamic religion is believed to be God's messenger, just like Adam, Moses, Isaac, Abraham, etc. He is not God's son, nor is he god himself. One way to look at it and understand it is ask: "Why would God make a human being his son, or his 'partner'?" Why so, when God can have anything He wishes? How is it explained that Jesus died for your sins? Does that mean you're not held responsible for mistakes you do (just like any other human kind), because you're already forgiven?
I just don't believe that God would make a human being "take charge" of the whole world, when He, Himself can do it all!

Muslims do believe that Isa (A.S.) was sent down as a Prophet of Allah (God), but he (Jesus) is not God or Lord, nor the son of God. Muslims do not believe that Isa (A.S.), also known as Jesus by Christians and others, is dead or was ever crucified. We believe that he was raised to heaven and is there, and will descend at the appointed time, end all wars, and bring peace to the world. Like Jesus (A.S.), Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is also a Prophet and Messenger. Muhammed (P.B.U.H.) is the last Prophet, though, and there is none after him. Hence, Islam is the last religion, complete, with the Holy Qur'an as the unchanged and perfect word of God for over 1400 years, as God promised to preserve it till the last day for all of humankind, unlike sacred texts of other religions which have mulitple versions and are "revised" periodically. God, or Allah in Arabic, is Divine and Supreme Being and Creator.
They slew him not, nor did they crucify him but it was made dubious to them.
(Holy Qur'an, Surah Nisaa, Verse 157)

According to the Qur'an Jesus pbuh wasn't crucified but another man who God made him look like Jesus was crucified instead of him. And Jesus was raised to heaven until the time comes for his return to kill the liar Mesiiah who will come at the end of time..after that he will rule the world and die. I want to add that he won't come as a new prophet but as a follower to prophet Muhammad pbuh when he returns.
From the Qur'an:.....Then ( 189 ) they went so far in their unbelief that they uttered a monstrous calumny against Mary: ( 190 ) they themselves bragged, "We have slain Jesus, son of Mary, a Messenger of Allah." Whereas in fact, they did not slay him nor did they crucify him but the matter was made dubious for them. And those who have differed about this matter are also in doubt concerning it. They have no knowledge of it but they follow mere conjectures, for it is certain that they did not kill Jesus. Nay, the fact is that Allah had raised him to Himself, for Allah is All-Powerful, All-Wise. There shall be none among the people of the Book but will believe in him before his death, and he will be a witness against them on the Day of Resurrection."4:156-159"
Another translation:
And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah's messenger - they slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain. "4:157"
The verses were talking about Jews and reasons for God's punishment to them.

we believe that God loves Jesus(pbuh) so much that he wouldn't let him suffer in such way!!
we believe that he was rejected by the people of Israel and was betrayed by one of his dispels.
God made this traitor dispel look like Jesus and he was the one that suffered this horrible punishment.
Jesus (pbuh) was raised up to heaven to be safe with God until it's time for his return.
peace.
