He will probably get placed on probation for somewhere between 6-12 months, and have to pay court costs and probation fees, as well as restitution to the store. He will be banned from the store from which he stole.
I'd give him 9 months probation, court costs of $160, and total probation fees of $360, and make all the juveniles severally and jointly liable for the total amount of restitution. (That means that if one doesn't pay, the others will have to pay that juvenile's share.) I'd also order 2 days boot camp and attendance at an 8 week course we offer which meets 2x a week.
I'm a probation officer in Indiana, and I work with juvenile delinquents every day.

Maybe you should contact the Prosecutor in the case, without your son's knowledge, and discuss what you would like to happen. Maybe you may want to teach him a lesson. Either way, try to make sure the end result is it doesn't stay on his record. Not even deferred adjudication. Work a deal with the prosecutor and try to have the case dismissed. Prosecutors don't bite...really.

If this is his first offense, the judge may put him on probation, and sentence him also to some community service.Better advise your son to show remorse during his court hearing, and advise him that if he should do this again, the penalties will be most severe, and he may have to do time in juvenile custody.

Why is he back to the same store that has was banned ?
When will you stop taking up for him ?
He's not a child any more and he needs to take resonsibility for his own actions.
We all make mistakes , some of us make bigger ones
Let him learn his lesson and have him sit in juvenile jail !

I would blame the Parents for not raising them right..... anyways it is a misdemeanor because it is less then $1000..... they might not even charge them with anything or if they do it will go through juvenile court....no biggie.
