In some cases, I think the analogy is apt. Check out Panspermia on Wikipedia. It is the belief that aliens put life on earth. One atheist here believes this view and denies both creation and evolution. That basically means aliens created us.
And I do think SciFi is a form of spirituality for people locked into an artificially scientific world view.

Actually no, I would not say aliens are a God for athiests.
Many 'aliens' as people call them are not actually aliens as such..
...they are termed as 'Star People' and to go another step further with this I am aware of many spiritualists whom channel both Angels and Star People.
I will say the messages are quite profound even if they came from ones own imagination, that then would appear to some as a very 'intelligent' imagination and information that could not possibly be made up and more over it makes a lot of sence.
My husband and I attended (out of pure interest at that time) with 300 other people at Melbounre University via Satellite from New York a medium whom channelled a Star Person known as Ptah. We were there all day with some very 'colourful' people from all communities, no cults, just families and students with open mind interest as to what this was all about. This was 13 years ago. He described in detail the coming years and he was not wrong. Everything he said has happened. It was not to put fear, but to prepare. And to prepare to put love back where fear resides.
Upon leaving we felt quite at ease with the days channelled messages from an 'alien' whom corrected all and asked that could we please refer to them as Star People. Respect granted.
I know this may go off the cuff a bit, but to answer this question I felt compelled to explain where I would be 'coming from'. I do not channel star people...only Angels...oops (Gina looks around pretending she never did say that! rolling her eyes!)
And as a believer no, I am not Athiest, I am a Spiritualist whom believes in the Whole Source of God, all that is, our Universal Creator, I also believe in Jesus but I am NOT a Christian. Jesus is not a religion....many religions...only one Jesus. I do not commit to any religion except my own where I am safe with it.

Atheists don't believe in God, so why would they be waiting on aliens to become their God? The aliens would be viewed as beings from another planet.

No. I certainly don't require aliens to prove anything, nor would they do so.
If earth is the only place in the universe with life, that does not in the least suggest a god. If life is abundant, that does not in the least defeat the idea of gods.

No, I am an atheist. I believe that there is a good possibility, with as large as the universe is supposed to be, that life exists somewhere orther than earth. I don't believe in any god. And I don't expect any aliens to come.

No. Aliens would simply be a previously unknown species, not deities.
You just aren't grasping the concept of athiest, are you? Atheist means you don't believe in any god. Atheists do not seek to believe any god. All gods are human myths.

I think you are confusing the word "god" with the word "creator". There are groups of alien junkies who believe that aliens are the ones who made us...or jump started evolution as it were, however the majority of atheists would simply see them an extraterrestrials. There are kooks in every group ya know!

Aliens are people from another dimension rather than another world. Sometimes there presence is explicitly manifested in this dimension, generally they don't explicitly interfere with people in this dimension.
Trying to seek help from the second dimension is like driving with closed eyes and open ears and then blaming ur ears if ur hit ;-)
God is supposed to be something bigger than these aliens but its existence is debatable.
There are people who believe in Church,
There are another category of people who believe in church as well as aliens.
There are people who dont believe in church but believe in aliens.
Then there is fourth category who believe in nothing but science, nanotech, genetics and bugs.
Majority of people just dont care and stay focused on the business of living.
Name these category as anything theists, educated theists atheists, govt or common name
At the end of the day The world is what you want to believe ;-)

I don't think so, but the Mormon religion believes that our God and his many wives were origianlly from a planet called Kolog. They don't believe that they are aliens, just that He was a person on that planet who by good works not only made it to heaven but also eventually became a god himself and there are other who went to be gods of other planets.
