Actually, I think you have a great point. If you can't exhibit self control in a basic thing like eating, how the heck is that being such a good example to the flock? Not to mention, obesity is most likely also a sign of deeper problems, so why should they be leading others.

"So they did eat, and were well filled; for He gave them their own desire; They were not estranged from their lust, But while their meat was yet in their mouths, The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel."
God has fattened this nation and others. No one gets a free pass and judgment begins at the house of God. Certainly add gluttony to your list and make sure your own house is in order.

Perhaps they have no time to exercise due to preparing worship, leading church projects, counseling, visiting parishioners, managing administrative affairs, providing visibility for special events, continuing studies, organizing for service to their congregation and community, managing logistical concerns, performing other ministries, trying to spend just a small amount of time with their families...
But if you want to help, give your pastor a call and offer to help him (or her) to take some time to take care of themselves. I'm sure they would appreciate it. Theirs can be an exhaustive job for very little pay. No, I'm not a pastor and I'm not overweight, but you've given me an idea...

i do no longer have faith that God exceeded the Bible down from heaven. It grew to become into written by way of people. in case you think of God honestly composed the Bible, then He possibly did no longer graduate from extreme college, cuz the Bible isn't an magnificent occasion of literature. additionally, the regulation of Moses of the Hebrew Bible condemns homosexuality. Jesus by no skill says a word approximately it- humorous pondering He grew to become into God's Son. Why does no longer He make an effort to sentence this variety of terrible prepare? St. Paul matters the condemnations of homosexuality interior the recent testomony, no longer Jesus, and St. Paul grew to become into relatively relating the regulation of Moses interior the Torah, considering he have been a Jew. and you recognize, of direction, that the leaders of the early Church agreed on what books to contain interior the recent testomony- evidence that men created the Bible. God did no longer write the Bible. it extremely is the artwork of fellows. attempt discovering something approximately church background and the Scriptures. i in my view do no longer care what your ideals on gay rights are, do exactly no longer turn the Bible into some supernatural style of outrage. You sound like a Muslim fundamentalist!

You've made a good point. A person claiming to be in the path of God needs to be a good example of total obedience. Today's public picture of these people is people of greed, lust and great thirst for power.

oh i love you....
i actually posed such a comment to a former boss who was over weight who kept yelling at me for my horrible smoking habit. this was after he said he should stop hiring people who smoke. i replied by saying that perhaps he should also stop hiring people who are obese because that is just as bad for their health. needless to say, he never uttered another word. (note: this was not a place that paid for any sort of health insurance, so that was not an issue)

well, I know of some overweight preachers, and they are good people, so I wouldn't want to say they shouldn't be preachers. It is just a fact that in our society, gluttony is viewed as less bad than alcoholism, drugs, and smoking.

I like your thinking! However, it is a pick and choose religion you speak of my friend. Convenient denial or routing around tough issues is a specialty of the religious.

I think there is some validity to your critique. But I'm not sure where you would draw the line on a person's weight.

We are all sinners in one way or another. So, if you want someone to preach to you who is perfect-it's not going to happen. Besides obesity is not always caused by gluttony.
