Don't forget to take into consideration the time of day you are reading. I know it sounds dumb but after lunch when you are full from eating it's usually a sleepy time of day. I'm sure your smart enough to know that if you are reading at night in bed where you are comfortable your body is going to relax and you are going to want to fall asleep. I don't think it's your eyes, because if you are sleepy it's a mind/body thing... eyes would just be tired. Is there a difference between being sleepy and tired? Hmmm... i feel another post coming on...

Perhaps you are thinking in the wrong direction. Most people have their head forward when they read. If you have any particular upper neck tightness, there could be a pulling of the 1st cervical vertebra... it has holes in it where the vertebral artery goes.. should that blood flow be restricted, you would have insufficient blood flow to the brain.. could account for the problem you express.
You can verify if this is the problem, just by pressing at the base of the skull and seeing if there is tenderness on either side.
Is not enjoyable to get sleepy in the middle of a good book or story.

When I used to read my academic books, I would feel sleepy within 5 mins of opening my books. And I turned out pretty fine I think! Don't worry, it just means that a.) you are exhausted or b.) the book is pretty damn boring (as it was in my case :D )

It's not your eyes. A lot of people get sleepy from reading, watching TV etc.

Alot of people get sleepy when they read. That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with your eyes. If you are in doubt, have your eyes examined.

The same thing happens to me.It's just 'cause your eyes have been glued to this book for a while. You haven't focussed on anything but the words on the page.Your eyes get tired and heavy. So YOU get tired.

Over all I would guess that you don't get enough sleep at night.
So when you set quietly the sleep that you need catches up with you.
Just relax & rest. That may be better for you than reading.

It isn't your eyes, your just really relaxing. Try to get some more sleep, and enjoy a little reading instead of a marathon session.

It's just that your eyes are working like if you work out and your body just wants to relax but with eyes and if they rest you know your gonna fall asleep.
