Yes as a matter of fact He went to Hell and fought Satan. He won and took the keys of death and hell from him and now Satan only has one weapon left. Lies.

I have read the answers posted before mine and would like to address some of them.

YES...Hell is a real place. Jesus talked about Hell more then He talked about heaven. He said it was a place of torments where the worm would not die nor the fire put out. He also said it would be better to lose sight and limb if it would keep us out of hell then to be cast into hell as a whole person. This tells me that those who die without Christ will not simply be alienated or cease to exist or even have a second chance at the judgment. Hebrews 9:27 does tell us that we have only one life and after this the judgment.

Those that said that no one is in hell yet and that they do not go to hell until after the judgment are technically correct but still they are in torment right now. Luke 16 told of "paradise" but this was separated into two parts. The side the poor man was on was wonderful but it says the rich man was in torments. Look at it this way....no matter what crime someone does...no one is ever sent to prison the moment they are arrested. The usually go to a county jail first and are sent to a prison only after being found guilty in court and sentenced. Still, they have no freedom. Those that die without the LORD are being held in a "jail" we often refer to as Hades but they are still in torments. At the White Throne Judgment, they will be found guilty and then cast into the lake of Fire for all eternity.

To answer the question…YES Jesus did go to Hell. Psalms 139 says “if I descend into hell, behold THOU are there.

Ephesians 4:
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

One of the reasons I believe that Jesus descended into Hell first...was to cancel MY reservation and the reservations of any who would trust in HIM for salvation.
The question now is…Did He cancel YOUR reservation?
To make sure, check the link below.

(One last thing.. JESUS is the only one that can do this....we can not pick and chose who our saviour will be...Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6

I'm sorry, but what is this about Jesus going to Hell???!!! Which Bible says this??

As a muslim I am shocked that Christians actually believe this.. How does this make any sense since Hell was created to punish sinners and Jesus was free of sin???!!!

We believe in Jesus as a Prophet and Messenger of God (not the Son of God as God has no son or partner), just like the other prophets such as Abraham, Moses, Joseph and Muhammad (peace be upon them all). Never could I believe that any of the Prophets went to Hell!

Muslims don't believe that Jesus died/ was crucified but the Quran says he was taken up to heaven.

Thats what it is all about, Adam sold out to the Devil, and Jesus had to Sneak into Hell and get the Keys Back.
Keys of Authority.
The only Legal Way to get into the Earth is to be Born of a Woman.
The only Legal Way to get into Hell is to Die a Lost Persons Death.
Jesus took on our Sins, became Lost and went into Hell, GOD the Father RECREATED Jesus's Spirit and Jesus Arose Victoriously.
Jesus made it Possible for us to go back to Heaven.
Jesus has to do Things Legally.

Not to insight a rabble of religious fanatics, but I disagree with some of the answers given and thought I'd throw in my "two cents" worth.

The first thing is to define hell. And to me there is two definitions.

If hell is the place of punishment for sins, then we question Jesus' life and ask what did he do to deserve punishment.

The second definition of hell is to me the abscence of God's prescence. So if Hell is the absence of God, isn't the Earth a hell? We know Jesus wen't to Earth so he "wen't to hell".

To full fill part of his mission . Yes he went down to the region of Hell to Battle SATAN(his tormentor and adversary) for the Keys to the Gates of Hell so all imprisoned there could be set free on the Day of Judgment.

He didn't go to hell because hell will not exist until after judgment day when certain people are assigned to go there. He went to the spirit world, aka Paradise, where we all go when we die. Remember he told the thief on the cross next to him that they would be in PARADISE?

Leonkallai: Ummm are you referring to the *pictures* on the childrens' bibles? Because you know those aren't photographs, right?

He went to Hell for 3 days, fought Satan for the keys, now He's got 'em and decides Himself where we go when we die.
