The Exodus was the founding event of the nation of Israel. God extracted one nation from the midst of another. The preceding events (as described in Genesis) are pious myth. From the desert experience, the nation of Israel acquired its identity, its guiding principles (Torah) and its enduring relationship with God (the Temple).

The Exile broke Israel's relationship with its land and the Temple and forced it to examine its relationship with God. Through the Babylonian experience, Judaism became portable and more scripturally based, an advantage when the great Diaspora came about.

Well,450 years before God had told Abraham, that he was giving the inhabitants of the land of Canaan(Palestine/Israel)that long to quit paganisim, burning their 1rst born alive to the god Molech, commiting beastiality, sodomy, child abuse, etc etc. They didn't so he used Israel to cleanse the land of this, via Joshua and caleb et.al.After they got in,they also blew it and had a difficult time not being lured in by the pagans. Finally Samuel got them under control,Saul was the first King,he blew it .David was the 2nd King ,he screwed up but he didn't blow it.Solomon, for all his wisdom almost blew it.His son Rehoboam, did blow it ,Israel split into 10 tribes to the North and 2 tribes to the south and it's never been good for 3000 years(almost). The two tribes to the South became "Jews" because of the tribe of JU-Dah.the tribes to the North were the Israelites.
All Israelites and Jews are Hebrew but not all Israelites were Jews(They worshipped the Golden Calves set up by Jeroboam, their 1rst King.)

For myself they are huge events that reveal how God works in our lives. For instance if you do not learn a lesson in life you end up taking another "lap through the desert" in life. The coming out of Egypt is like our new lives in Christ. How we need to have our minds renewed by the Word of God. and grow to know God and His Word.

They were crucial in shaping the formation of a nationality...These events, such as they were, epic moments for my people and shows how the God of our fathers was involved with us and loved us.
