Well, empirical observation tells us that the lights are still on at 300 million, but at the same time, some problems have developed. History also teaches us that, in some regions where the population has developed too rapidly around the world, really bad consequences have come from it, any place where the population vastly exceeds the capacity of the land to provide for the needs of the people living there will have shortages and the problems that come from that.

Numbers, numbers, today the world has 6.6 billion, 2 countries now comprise a full third of the world, India, and China. The US started the 20th century with 90 million, 100 years later we've got 300 million. I'm no expert on it, but the rate of increase seems pretty important, and that's why immigration's an issue I've been reading about. You have to start thinking about sustainability, which is where a lot of countries have gone wrong. Other issues, like pollution, economy, availability of fresh water, all of these are factors in long-term sustainability. If we hypothesize that the rate of population increase in our country will remain the same or even increase, then there will be 400 million in the US in the next 30 to 40 years. Express it differently, say that we now have .3 billion, soon to be .4 billion. .5. .6. .7. .8. .9.......how long did it take India to 'boom' that way? What problems have they encountered? What solutions have they developed? That's why there should be a discussion about the whole business, and to my mind, that's why better immigration enforcement is required, because this is not the world of 1960, 1970, 1980, this is 2006.
We're talking compound interest etc. China passed their 1-child law, to try and get a handle on things... anyway, something to think about...

Yes the 300 million mark is too high for America right now. Our infrastructure is not built for this big influx of population. We have major problems with our social programs such as welfare and healthcare. Our tax codes have too many holes in them to generate enough revenue to support the needs of this amount. Our law enforcement is well below the amount needed to police this amount also. The country right now would be better off with a population of about 200 million.

It is not about how many people we got in this country legaly. This is all about an issue of illegals being criminals. When they are gone we will be able to take care of our own citizens first. They are a leach leaching off of us the citizens. They take jobs and use our systems set up to help legal citizens to their own gains while we pay for them. They steel Identities so they can work and ruing peoples credit. They are racicst against us and bring drugs guns and violence with them from mexico. They are a strain on our failing education system. Our education system now has to teach them english since they don't learn it before coming here. They can learn english from a book in a mater of 9 weeks. I've seen a asian man do that why cant they. He did it while in basic training. He didn't speak a single word of english before joining the military and by the end of basic was able to talk to all of us in english. He was a citizen due to his father being american.

If we were to rid ourselves of illegals, able bodied welfare receipents, Felons convicted or not. The population would be about 150,000,000. Just about right. Got any ideas?
