Best advice: Ignore it, a loose lifter when an engine is cold is NOTHING to worry about. If it "Ticks" when it's warm is another story. ;-) Drive on my friend 8-)

First thing I would do is check the oil level in the crankcase. If you are low on oil it will cause your lifters to "tick" upon starting. After it runs for minute it may go away because the oil pressure has built up enough to supply the lifters with the proper amount of oil.
If the oil is at the proper level you may consider how long it has been since you had an oil change. If you can't remember, it's been too long! If the oil change and the level are not the problem you may want to check the oil pressure. If it is low (oil pressure) after the above two have been verified, then you could either have a plugged oil pickup (or "screen") or a bad oil pump.
One last possibility (since you didn't give us the make and model of the vehicle) is valve adjustment. Not so much on newer cars, but some older cars have adjustable valvetrains, which over time wear and loosen out of adjustment. It would "tick" or "rattle" a little at startup, and as the engine warms up heat expansion would reduce the clearances making the "ticking" go away.

Either needs hydralic lifters replaced or possibly valve adjustment and then again maybe both! This is of course assuming you change your oil regularly and use good quality motor oil and its up to the full mark on the dip stick!!!!!! Oil pump might be going to but you should be able to read your gauge to see the oil pressure. Hopefully, you don't have what we refer to as idiot gauges! (that's just a light that comes on instead of actually showing you the pressure reading)

A loose valve lash adjuster will tick until it warms up. Could be a sticking valve lifter.

my engine hasn't ticked in a long time--oops, you are talking about your truck...lol
check the oil or water level, both can cause this.
hopefully it is this simple, if not, it may be the trucks valves, but i hope not

Your valve lash needs adjusted or your lifters need adjusted or replaced. This noise is nothing major to worry about and is pretty common in older cars.
