you know that is because they want to have sex. What else do two 18 year olds gain from marriage?

They have chosen not to live in sin. What's wrong with that?

Yes this happens. Currently the couples are marrying older and older in Christian circles. Did you know that in the 17-1800's, and probobly later, a young woman was concidered an Old Maid, if not married by twenty. Most were married at 14, 15, 16 age range.

In today's world your statment may be true, however there is also a growing movement toward biblical marrige, and a correct understanding of the family. This movement is characterised by a desire to marry younger also, but so that the kingdom of God might be advanced on the earth so that all men might live in the peace and freedom that is from God.

Biblical marrige consists of one man and one woman, and their families, in covenant with each other and God. The Man, as the head of the household is responsible before God for the actions of all, he is covanentally obligated to lead, provide for, and physical and spiritual protection. The Woman is to be the Man's companion and sutible helper. They must bring up their chlidren in the training and instruction of the Lord, aka home educate.

In light of the immense responsibility that God has placed on the husband and wife, it is nieve and foolish to do as you say for that (sex) reason.

What else do they stand to gain? how about the intrical oneness that God gives to married couples in order to carry out their calling before God and man.

I hope this sheds some additional light.

P.S. I described biblical marriage to bee sure that you could understand where I was coming from.

Have you ever noticed that just because we are Christian, doesn't mean we aren't HUMAN??? We all make mistakes. The only difference between a Christian & a non-believer is that we ask for the forgivness that is so willingly handed to us! If you do know someone who got married at a young age, do you really know the reason for it? And have you noticed that non-believers don't wait till marrige to have sex? At least these Christians are doing something right. You can't argue with that.

I was not born and raised Christian, but have been a Christian since I was 13. And I married at 19. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that if you are truly in love with God, He leads you to the right people and particularly the right person when it is the right time.

I live among a community of over 100 families that have been together for 30 years and our kids are getting married at all different ages. But what is wrong with 18 year olds getting married?

Among us there are people who married young and people who married late. I see no difference over the long haul of how happy their marriages are or how healthy their kids turn out. Our kids are growing up to embrace their faith for the most part and they become excellent citizens and regular voters. Among our worldwide group(called The Sword of the Spirit) the divorce rate is about 1%

No I have not noticed that especially. I have often advised young people to get married instead of just living together just because it makes things official and protects them both under the law. The rules for society and community are just much more defined than under common law rules or just shacking up.
I doubt if any real statistical measure would support your statement except for the fact that to have a ceremony most young people pretty well need a building like a church to have it in.

well I am not so sure that your generalization is a fair one but what else do we expect from Christian bashers such as yourself.
What a 18 year old might gain from marriage other then sex would be commitment, and support in a tough world that tells our kids to do anything but get married.
and that is wrong?

I don't think so. I think they have seen a good example of marriage being lived out by their parents and desire that for them selves. Also I think often the parents are praying for them to marry the right person from an early age. Of course there are exceptions, but I think in general this applies.

I had the same criticism years ago of Christians I knew. Yet, now I see those same couples and the are so much happier than average couples. I've changed my views in the last few years.

companionship, stability, and still being under 50 when their kids graduate from highschool and move out of the house, but you are missing the point; marriage is not about "gain", it is about love.
