If you continually dwell on it, it will eventually eat you alive. You need to put the abuse behind you and know that you are a better person in spite of or because of the abuse.

Some people say you need counseling...in my opinion councilors are a waste of time and money because they keep dragging this and that up and it makes you relive the abuse over and over.

In the end you have to make up your own mind as to weather you are going to let the memory of the abuse rule your life or are you going to take control of your life and become a better person for it on you own. the choice is really yours, the one you choose is the one that will control you.

They vary honey. It truly depends upon the person who was abused. They can let it destroy their lives, or they can make the decision to leave it in the past and become everything their abuser wasn't. They can grow up and have happy marriages, wonderful children who they dote on, etc. It's a mindset. Some of us have the "Oh woe is me" and some of us have the "Thank God I survived that, now it's time for me to live the way I want to live". We all handle things differently.
