That would be an interesting point for the 'body is a temple' crowd. If they fell that their body is a gift grom God, then they'd be obliged to maintain it in ideal condition, and not disable it with diabetes 2, heart disease, etc...

The church should absolutely be a voice against obesity as well as the other abuses of the body mentioned above.

The bible already condemn such things, gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins, i dont agree its as bad as smoking, smoking doesnt seem as greedy and selfish as eating to much, there are millions of people out there who starve to death, not from getting a ciggerate, plus if u count weed, it was made by god so why not, i dont think u will go to hell for having the occasional drink either, i mean after all jesus drank wine and so does the pope so why not either, if it gets out of hand and u r hurting either people then yes, etc. secondhand smoke, drinking and driving, etc. Over eating just seems no comparison because god created enough resources to feed everyone, but yet thousands die everyday, i honesty will never throw food out and i always eat just enough to be satisfied not stuff it down my throat till my tummy explodes, i mean dont people feel any guilt when they do this!!!!! LOL

No, the church should be a voice against arrogance, self-righteousness and pre-judgment. The church should promote social justice and warn against excessive preoccupation with external appearances. Read James 2.

GOD made all of us in his own image. Not all people who have a weight problems are "Gluttons. Genes, physical problems and
even depression can be a cause of obesity. Churches should
preach the Gospel witch includes taking care of ones body for
it is the temple of 'GOD'

Well, if someone is promoting healthiness, I'm generally for it.

If someone is ENFORCING healthiness, I have a problem. I graduated, and then the schools raised the prices on all the vending machines and even the REGULAR SCHOOL LUNCHES so kids wouldn't eat as much.

That just doesn't make ******* sense. Who raises the price of school lunches to combat obesity? Kids need to eat lunch!

I think the church needs to spend it's time being "For" people not against anybody.

You'd think they'd have their hands full doing something about all those priests molesting children to have the time to interfere even more in peoples lives.

lets not forget that gluttony and sloth are among the seven deadly sins--gluttony is overindulging, especially in food, and sloth is never getting off your @ss--the combination of the two tend to lead to obesity--they should be contributing their excess food to the hungry and working at homeless shelters

I think doing anything obsessively and not in moderation is sinful in a sense, or at least can feel that way.
