The batteries that are include with the new camcorders typically can last about 60 minutes - more or less depending on if you use the LCD screen, how much zooming, etc.
You should be able to get a higher capacity (look for a high number for mAh) battery for your camcorder.

I have a Cannon Elura 70 mini DV. The standard Battery is good for an hour and 15 minutes when freshly charged out of the box. Used for a few months, the battery life goes down to around an hour.
The extended battery lasts 3 times longer, fresh out of the box and much less when used for a few months.

I think the three ans2wers up to this moment are not accurate. For the text of the question I assume this is the sense : Average battery LIFE of a mini DV camcorder is ONE TO TWO YEARS depending on numbers or charging-discharging cycles and propperly storage.

When recording at Gigs I find one battery lasts 43 Minutes.
Based on-No Pausing!,and Full charge one hour before using a Canon BHP1 Ni-Mi Battery
