I want my kids to be use to wearing dress clothes since most higher paying jobs require it. For this reason I expect them to dress up once in a while. Dress clothes means a botton down shirt, tie, dress pants and dress shoes. Anyone elses kids dress up for church, social gatherings or possibly school?

Mine do not dress up for school, but I know some school have it as part of the dress code or the parents make them.

Hello! What a good question. I have a 2-year-old boy and we dress him up often. We go to church every Sunday morning and him and his Daddy wear white button-up shirts, ties, slacks, nice dress shoes and he has to comb his hair (ok, I help a little).
You do not have an unreasonable request. Teaching your child the importance of dressing up for the proper occations helps instill respect, discpline, a little (good-natured) pride in his appearence and helps them to learn to take care of their clothes.
We also dress up for special occations: weddings, a nice dinner, a graduation, or visiting an elderly person. It is a little more expensive to buy dress clothes, but we go to clothing exchange (Twice as Nice, Savers, Deseret Industries) to save a little money. Oh, you must also invest in spray'n'wash - every mother needs that on her laundry shelf.
The person who said that children won't want to dress up when they grow up isn't making sense. With that same mentality, don't teach your children how to make their beds, brush their teeth, wash their hair, learn to cook, or eat their veggies. These are all things that we sometimes don't necessarily WANT to do, but we know these things are important. Therefore, instill good habits when they are young so it isn't such an issue to deal with when they are older.
Try it once a month and work up to once or twice a week. They will notice a difference in the way people look at them and a difference in the way they feel. I wish you luck!

My kids are older now, but I was one of the mothers who made sure they always had dress clothes for certain occasions other than school. (School may be a little too weird to wear dress clothes these days.)
I think its nice if they wear dress clothes to church, certain types of social gatherings (not the Fourth of July barbeque, of course), and for holidays. Dress clothes are also nice for class pictures, dance recitals, or even a special Sunday dinner at Grandma's house.
You have a point about the higher paying jobs, but I think dress clothes do more than that. My sons used to kind of feel good about being dressed up, and - needless to say - my daughter felt really special. I think its nice for them to know how nice it can feel to feel a little more polished or grown-up or to feel like a holiday is special enough to wear better clothes. It think it teaches children of both genders to have a little self-respect and enjoy the fact that whatever their gender is, they can dress nicely and feel good about how they look.

I am 14. I suppose if I were to go to church I would dress up. I do wear a button up shirt unbuttoned with a white t-shirt jeans or khakis and a pair of clean white sneakers. by choice two or three times a week. different colors though. Dressing up is good in the real world but they can do that then.

There is always a time and a place for it. I think that you have the right idea, you should also have them do it once a week or at least a few times a month. Depending on school activities.

My child had his first suit when he was 3 months old. He dresses up every Sunday for church! I have pics to prove it too!!!! There is nothing wrong with dressing your family up! Just as long as the child is not too hot/cold and if they get dirty you wont get mad!!!

Why, may I ask, would you dress them up for school?
And it is pretty pointless to dress them up at an early age, because once they get older they'll never want to dress up.
